{"id":1481,"date":"2018-01-07T17:54:48","date_gmt":"2018-01-07T22:54:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/bridger\/?p=1481"},"modified":"2018-01-07T17:54:48","modified_gmt":"2018-01-07T22:54:48","slug":"focus-for-the-week-of-january-8-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/bridger\/2018\/01\/07\/focus-for-the-week-of-january-8-2018\/","title":{"rendered":"Focus for the week of January 8, 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In second grade this week, we are learning about:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reading:\u00a0 <\/strong>\u00a0Students will learn how to\u00a0Describe how words and phrases (e.g., regular beats, alliteration, rhymes, repeated lines) supply rhythm and meaning in a story, poem, or song.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Writing:\u00a0 <\/strong>\u00a0Students will w<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">rite opinion pieces in which they introduce the topic or book they are writing about, state an opinion, supply reasons that support the opinion, use linking words (e.g., <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">because<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> also<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) to connect opinion and reasons, and provide a concluding statement or section.Students will w<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ith guidance and support from adults and peers, focus on a topic and strengthen writing as needed by revising and editing. \u00a0They will r<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ecall information from experiences or gather information from provided sources to answer a question.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Math:\u00a0 <\/strong>Students will learn to use addition and subtraction within 100 to solve one- and two-step word problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing with unknowns in all positions, e.g. by using drawings and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Science:\u00a0 <\/strong>Students will\u00a0plan and conduct an investigation to describe and classify different kinds of materials by their observable properties.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Social Studies:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Students will be learning about laws in our community and how our government is set up and works.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/bridger\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/293\/2017\/11\/Unknown-6.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-1420\" src=\"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/bridger\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/293\/2017\/11\/Unknown-6-150x150.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In second grade this week, we are learning about: Reading:\u00a0 \u00a0Students will learn how to\u00a0Describe how words and phrases (e.g., regular beats, alliteration, rhymes, repeated lines) supply rhythm and meaning in a story, poem, or song.
