Language Arts:<\/strong> \u00a0We are working on Read to Self \u00a0Work on Writing, and Read to someone. \u00a0 I have introduced a number of strategies for students to use during their reading. This weeks focus is using main idea and key detail. I ask that parents take the time to read with you child each night. \u00a0After the child has read for 30 minutes ask them questions about what they have read. \u00a0 I am assigning weekly summarize that need to be done. Students must choose a book, read it and write a summary. Summarize will be due on Friday. In addition to Daily 5 we have begun MSTEP prep. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u00a0Spelling Words<\/strong>: knuckles, honor, wrestle, heir, doubt, gnat, plumber, known, answer, thumbs, axis, revolve, planet, orbit, rotation Math:<\/strong> \u00a0We are working on Module 3 . Module 3 focuses Investigating and using the formulas for area and perimeter of rectangles. We are also working on multiplying 2 and 3 digits by 1 digit. We have also introduced division. \u00a0In addition I ask that parents go over their child’s basic computation skills. \u00a0Each student has a math bag. In that bag you will find division and multiplication cards. Students are struggling with basic multiplication. I ask parents to please take the time and review the basics with their students. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Science:<\/strong> This card marking period we will be learning about the scientific method and Energy. Students will participate in hands on experiments to better their understanding. I will send home readings that go along with what we are reading in class. Please go over the reading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Social Studies:<\/strong> \u00a0Students will demonstrate understanding of Our Government. Why do we need a Government? <\/p>\n\n\n\n Snacks<\/strong>: Please send in a healthy snack with your child. I ask that you only send in a fresh fruit or vegetable. I will give them snack time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Birthday Parties: No cupcakes are allowed. Please send in a healthy snack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Weather: Please dress your child according to the weather. They will be going outside for recess everyday.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n Upcoming Events<\/strong>: Week of January 13 <\/strong>NWEA, DRA and IReady testing Begin.
