This weeks focus is using context clues when determining the meaning of an unknown word.  &nbsp; I ask that parents take the time to read with you child each night. &nbsp;After the child has read for 30 minutes ask them questions about what they have read. &nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Spelling words<\/strong> <strong>Week 5:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>today, ache, estimate, phrase, trade, parade, became, arcade, education, glacier, geography, region, direction, transportation, Midwest, landform<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Math:<\/strong> &nbsp;We are still working on Module 1.  We took the mid module assessment.  Students are understanding how to use a place value chart.  &nbsp;We will be learning about place value, and fluently adding and subtracting multi digit whole numbers using the standard algorithm . &nbsp;In addition I ask that parents go over their child&#8217;s basic computation skills. &nbsp;Each student has a math bag.  In that bag you will find division and multiplication cards.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Science:<\/strong> This card marking period we will be learning about the scientific method and Energy. &nbsp;Students will participate in hands on experiments to better their understanding. &nbsp;I will send home readings that go along with what we are reading in class. &nbsp;Please go over the reading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Social Studies:<\/strong> &nbsp;Students will demonstrate understanding of how Geographers think. &nbsp;Students will also be able to locate Michigan and the United States on a map.
