Language Arts: We are working on Read to Self Work on Writing, and Read to someone. I have introduced a number of strategies for students to use during their reading. This weeks focus is main idea and supporting details. I ask that parents take the time to read with you child each night. After the child has read for 30 minutes ask them questions about what they have read. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Spelling Words Week 1:\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Math: We are working beginning Unit 1 in math. Unit 1 focuses on PLACE VALUE. We will be learning about place value, and fluently adding and subtracting multi digit whole numbers using the standard algorithm . In addition I ask that parents go over their child’s basic computation skills. Math flash cards can be purchased from the Dollar Store. Each card marking period students will be tested on all 4 computations skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Science: This card marking period we will be learning about the scientific method and life science. Students will participate in hands on experiments to better their understanding. I will send home readings that go along with what we are reading in class. Please go over the reading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Social Studies: Students will demonstrate understanding of how Geographers think. Students will also be able to locate Michigan and the United States on a map. This week we will be focusing on the five regions of the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Snacks: Please send in a healthy snack with your child. I ask that you only send in a fresh fruit or vegetable. I will give them snack time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Birthday Parties: No cupcakes are allowed. Please send in a healthy snack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Weather: Please dress your child according to the weather. They will be going outside for recess everyday.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wednesday: Read 30 minutes, spelling sentences, finish 2nd and 3rd paragraph of opinion essay<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Thursday: Read 30 minutes, study for test,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Don’t forget to bring in your canned goods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
