This weeks focus is main idea and supporting details. &nbsp; I ask that parents take the time to read with you child each night. &nbsp;After the child has read for 30 minutes ask them questions about what they have read. &nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Spelling Words Week 1:\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>oxygen, strap, bent, umbrella, shipment, prime, staple, because, hope, rumor,&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>north, south, east, west, location<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Math: &nbsp;We are working beginning &nbsp;Unit 1 in math. &nbsp;Unit 1 focuses on PLACE VALUE.   &nbsp;We will be learning about place value, and fluently adding and subtracting multi digit whole numbers using the standard algorithm . &nbsp;In addition I ask that parents go over their child&#8217;s basic computation skills. &nbsp;Math flash cards can be purchased from the Dollar Store. &nbsp;Each card marking period students will be tested on all 4 computations skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Science: This card marking period we will be learning about the scientific method and life science. &nbsp;Students will participate in hands on experiments to better their understanding. &nbsp;I will send home readings that go along with what we are reading in class. &nbsp;Please go over the reading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Social Studies: &nbsp;Students will demonstrate understanding of how Geographers think. &nbsp;Students will also be able to locate Michigan and the United States on a map.
