      Content Area Words:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      1. square units –<\/strong> To find the area of a square or rectangle, length and width are multiplied together to give the area, which is measured in square units.<\/li>
      2. variable –<\/strong> A symbol, usually a letter, used to represent a number in a math expression. Ex. 12 = a + 3<\/li>
      3. formula –<\/strong> A fact or a rule written with mathematical<\/strong> symbols.<\/li>
      4. area –<\/strong> The space occupied by a flat shape or the surface of an object. The area<\/strong> of a figure is the number of unit squares that cover the surface of a closed figure. Ex. A = L x W or P = 2L + 2W<\/li>
      5. perimeter –<\/strong> The distance around a shape.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n
