Pleases work on those today too.  So far we have done a prediction, setting, character compare\/contrast, and a roll the dice choice response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is a new spelling list on Spelling City.  Spend some time getting familiar with the words and their meanings. Study them and when you are ready have someone give you a spelling test!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I have had a couple people send me their personal narratives. It was wonderful to read them!  I would love for you to use some of this time to write.  Write a story, a poem, a journal, create a graphic novel&#8230;anything. Why did they feel that way?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The colonists were very upset.&nbsp; They felt that they should have the right to settle where they chose.&nbsp; Many of them had already settled there and were given land there by the British government as payment for fighting in the French and Indian War.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Did the King have the power and authority to make this proclamation?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<em>As the King of Britain and therefore the colonies the King had the power and authority to make this proclamation.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Why did Parliament adopt the Stamp Act?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Parliament adopted the Stamp Act to try to pay back the debt from the French and Indian War and the expensives from having to protect all the new land they got during the war.<\/em><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;What was the colonists\u2019 reaction?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The colonists were angry because they felt that the only group that should tax them were the colonial legislatures.&nbsp; They did not think they should be taxed when they did not have representatives in Parliament.<\/em><br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Why did Parliament adopt the Townshend Act?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The <\/em><strong><em>British<\/em><\/strong><em> wanted to get the colonies to pay for themselves. The <\/em><strong><em>Townshend Acts<\/em><\/strong><em> were specifically to pay for the salaries of officials such as governors and judges. &#8230; They <\/em><strong><em>had<\/em><\/strong><em> repealed an earlier tax called the Stamp <\/em><strong><em>Act<\/em><\/strong><em> because of colonial protests, but thought that taxes on imports would be okay.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What was the colonists\u2019 reaction?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>T<em>he colonists held protests and boycotts.&nbsp; The tea portion of the Townshend Acts caused the protest called the Boston Tea Party.<\/em><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What goods were taxed as a part of the Townshend Acts?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The Townshend Acts imposed taxes on British china, glass, lead, paint, paper and tea.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/em><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What was the main cause of the Boston Massacre?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It all began with a small argument between a British soldier and a few colonists outside the Custom House in Boston on King Street. The argument began to escalate as more colonists gathered and began to harass and throw sticks and snowballs.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Soon there were over 50 colonists at the scene. The local British officer of the watch, Captain Thomas Preston, sent a number of soldiers over to the Custom House to maintain order. However, the sight of British soldiers armed with bayonets just aggravated the crowd further. They began to shout at the soldiers, daring them to fire.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Captain Preston then arrived and tried to get the crowd to disperse. Unfortunately, an object thrown from the crowd struck one of the soldiers and knocked him down. He fired into the crowd. After a few seconds of stunned silence, a number of other soldiers fired into the crowd as well. Three colonists died immediately and two more died later from wounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What effect did the Boston Massacre have on the feelings of the colonists towards Britain?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<em>The colonists used the Boston Massacre as a symbol of how the British felt about them.&nbsp; Many colonists were very angry and colonists who were not really sure what to think before this decided that they did not like the British anymore.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Why did Britain issue the Intolerable Acts?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Britain issued the Intolerable Acts as punishment for the Boston Tea Party and to show the colonists they were still in charge.&nbsp; They tried to use Massachusettsas an example to the other colonies that they should behave.&nbsp;<\/em><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Did the Intolerable Acts end up causing the colonies to unite or divide?&nbsp; Why?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The Intolerable Acts ended up bringing the colonists together because the colonists saw that they needed to stick together or their colony might be next to receive such harsh punishment.<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What was the role of the First Continental Congress?&nbsp; (What did they vote to do?)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The colonists wanted to fix their relationship with Britain but also try to get Britain to see that they should be in charge of themselves a bit.&nbsp; They also<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>wanted to talk to Britain about having representation before they are taxed.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What was the main argument the colonists had with Britain in regards to all the different taxes?
