{"id":210,"date":"2015-01-07T15:33:44","date_gmt":"2015-01-07T20:33:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/bartonl\/?p=210"},"modified":"2015-01-07T15:33:44","modified_gmt":"2015-01-07T20:33:44","slug":"happy-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/bartonl\/2015\/01\/07\/happy-2015\/","title":{"rendered":"Happy 2015!!!!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Welcome back to school!!! \u00a0We have a lot going on this month!!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Social Studies-<\/strong> \u00a0We begin the study of our federal government. \u00a0This week our discussions and lesson focus on the reasons we have government, the purposes of government, and the Preamble to the Constitution. \u00a0This unit will culminate in a district common assessment on March 11th. \u00a0Students have already received the study guide so they can study as we go through the unit.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Science-<\/strong> A test on forms\u00a0of energy, simple machines, and temperature will be given on Jan. 14th. \u00a0Students have received the study guide and should be bringing materials home to study each day.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Math- <\/strong>Unit 5 covers extended multiple facts, double digit times double digit numbers and measurement using customary units. \u00a0If your child does not yet know their multiplication facts this unit will probably be difficult. \u00a0Daily practice of facts is vital.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ELA- <\/strong>\u00a0We will be doing a genre study of fantasy. \u00a0We will continue working on correct and complete responses to literature.<\/p>\n<p>We continue working on writing complete and correct opinion pieces with an emphasis on social studies topics.<\/p>\n<p>Our language study topics include figurative language, commas, quotation marks, \u00a0transitional words, and correct paragraphing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Spelling 1\/5 &#8211; 1\/9<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>total, final, medal, vocal, royal, government, community, laws, rules, constitution<\/p>\n<p><strong>PBiS<\/strong> &#8211; \u00a0The Habit of the month is Habit #3- Put first things first. \u00a0Work first, then play. \u00a0Please try to reinforce this habit at home!!<\/p>\n<p>**This month\u00a0some students will take the DRA. \u00a0To prepare for this test students should continue to read 20 minutes every night!!<\/p>\n<p>** We will also have the district writing assessment in January. \u00a0We will be writing an opinion piece.<\/p>\n<p>The end of the first semester is January 23rd. \u00a0Grades are due on that date. \u00a0Report cards will come out the following week.<\/p>\n<p>Students have no school on January 19th and 23rd.<\/p>\n<p>Students have a half day of school on January 22nd. \u00a0Students attend school from 8:35 &#8211; 11:45 on that day.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome back to school!!! \u00a0We have a lot going on this month!!
