They have been given new packets, which were placed in the social studies section of their content binders.  They have new vocabulary, big idea sheets, and graphic organizers which they can read over and discuss with you.  <\/p>\n<p><strong>Third grade- The Growth of Michigan:<\/strong><br \/>\nOverarching Questions:<br \/>\nHow did people in Michigan work together to meet new challenges as Michigan grew?<br \/>\nFocus Questions:<br \/>\nHow has Michigan changed over time?<br \/>\nHow have Michigan&#8217;s resources impacted the economy and growth of the state?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/bartonl\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/491\/2017\/04\/imgres-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/bartonl\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/491\/2017\/04\/imgres-1.jpg\" alt=\"pioneers\" width=\"240\" height=\"144\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1102\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Fourth grade-  Exploring Economics:<\/strong><br \/>\nOverarching Question<br \/>\nHow are geographers, economists, and political scientists similar and different in how they study places and people?<br \/>\nFocus Questions<br \/>\nWhat questions do economists ask and how do their answers describe the United States?<br \/>\nHow do the characteristics of a market economy influence economic decision making?<br \/>\nHow does competition affect the economy in the United States?<\/p>\n<p>Enduring Understanding<br \/>\n\u2022 People use resources to produce goods and services.<br \/>\n\u2022 Scarcity results because resources are limited and human wants are unlimited.<br \/>\n\u2022 Because of scarcity, people make choices about what goods and services to produce, how goods and services will be produced, and who will get the goods and services.<br \/>\n\u2022 In answering the questions about what to produce, how to produce it, and who gets it, people create an economic system.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/bartonl\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/491\/2017\/04\/imgres-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/bartonl\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/491\/2017\/04\/imgres-2.jpg\" alt=\"Piggy bank\" width=\"278\" height=\"181\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1103\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>ELA:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We have begun doing some work on Readworks.  Please have your student show you their account.  The class number is YKHYRU.  They sign in through their google account.  Grades from these assignments will be used towards appropriate sections of the report card. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/bartonl\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/491\/2017\/04\/imgres.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/bartonl\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/491\/2017\/04\/imgres.png\" alt=\"readworks\" width=\"280\" height=\"64\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1104\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The language portion of the report card grade includes the use of capital letters and end marks. All student work should have these by this point in the year.  Students not using correct capitalization and end marks will possibly receive a grade of less than a 2 on their report card.
