Please  work with your child on their sight words. Have them practice their lists everyday. It is very important that they learn these sight words or \u201cjump out\u201d words. They are critical to reading not only because they are used so frequently, but also because many of them cannot easily be sounded out or illustrated. \u2026 Because they are used so often it is important<\/strong> that readers be able to recognize these words<\/strong> on sight.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Activities to help learn sight words:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1- It takes just 5 minutes to set up Sight Word Sticky Note Match.<\/a> Just write the words on sticky notes and have your child cover the words on a dry erase board!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2 \u2013 Grab your alphabet stamps and some play dough for this simple sight word activity<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3 \u2013 Write the words on sticky notes. Then have your child write them in sand<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4 \u2013 Teach sight word songs. We are big fans of the collection of the sight word DVD\u2019s and CD\u2019s from Heidisongs<\/a>. Listen to them as you\u2019re driving to school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5 \u2013 Write the words on sticky notes. Then have your child swat each sight word<\/a>  with a fly swatter as you name it!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6 \u2013Do fun actions <\/a>with your sight words with This Reading Mama\u2019s free action cards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

7 \u2013 Write sight words in play dough<\/a> with a stick or wooden skewer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

8 \u2013 Try chanting sight words in a variety of different ways \u2013 like a robot, a cheerleader, and more! You can get free sight word chants on TPT here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

9 \u2013 Make a sight word memory game. Just write each sight word on two different index cards. Then turn the cards over and invite your child to find the matches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

11- Learning is always more fun with dice! Grab these free rainbow roll & write pages<\/a> for a variety of sight words. Kids roll a die, check the key at the top of the page, and write the word in a particular color.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

12 \u2013 This is such a creative way to practice writing sight words! Find the words with a magnifying glass and write them on the lines. Get the freebie here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

13 \u2013 Print and play sight word blackout<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

14 \u2013 Simply write your child\u2019s sight words on a piece of paper and have him stamp them with alphabet stamps.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

15. Grab the play dough, a sheet protector, and a dry erase marker. Your child can build the word with play dough and write it on the lines below. Get the freebie here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

16 \u2013 Grab these free color-by-sight-word<\/a> pages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

17 \u2013 Get some colorful craft sticks and write the words with a permanent marker for some simple sight word puzzles<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

18- Sight Word Showdown is both simple and genius! Just grab a stack of index cards and write each word twice. Then follow the directions in this post.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

19 \u2013 Write sight words in muffin tin liners and play a simple game of Three in a Row<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

20 \u2013 Bury magnetic letters in a sensory material. Have children dig out the letters to build words<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

21 \u2013 Make a sight word parking lot<\/a>. Draw tiny parking spots on a piece of poster board, and write a sight word in each one. As you name the words, have your child park a toy car in each spot. Learn more here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

22- Practice writing sight words using a dry erase marker<\/a> on a dry erase board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

23- Write sight words on craft sticks and provide some magnetic letters for this portable sight word activity.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

24 \u2013 Where\u2019s the bear?<\/a> Write the words on paper cups and hide a small bear or other tiny object. Your child guesses where the bear is hiding by naming the word on the cup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

25 \u2013\u00a0Go on a simple\u00a0sight word hunt<\/a>\u00a0by matching the sticky note sight words to the words on a clip board. (This one\u2019s a favorite at our house.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
