{"id":22,"date":"2019-08-22T15:36:33","date_gmt":"2019-08-22T19:36:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/defaulttemplate1\/?page_id=22"},"modified":"2019-08-22T18:11:08","modified_gmt":"2019-08-22T22:11:08","slug":"class-info","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/barakat3\/class-info\/","title":{"rendered":"Class Info"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Kindergarten Classroom<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here is an overview of our classroom behavior management\nplan, classroom rules, attendance policy, and homework policy.&nbsp; Please read them carefully and go over them\nwith your child.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We will also be looking for volunteers to assist on field\ntrips and for other school functions. In order to be a volunteer, you must have\na background check on file.&nbsp; We are\nlooking to go on a field trip very soon and the background check could take up\nto 2 weeks to come back so please go into the office and fill it out as soon as\npossible! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If at any time you need to reach me throughout the school\nyear, you can call the school.&nbsp; If I am\nunavailable please leave a message and I will return your call as soon as I\ncan.&nbsp; I will also be available after\nschool from 3:35-3:45 p.m. or by appointment.&nbsp;\nYou may also reach me by e-mail at <a href=\"mailto:barakam@dearbornschools.org\">barakam@dearbornschools.org<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Positive Behavior\nSupport (PBS)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the behavior management technique that will be used\nthroughout the school year.&nbsp; Your child\nwill come home with a homework folder every day.&nbsp; Inside that folder there will be a behavior\nchart and each day we will fill in a color on the chart.&nbsp; The colors and their meanings are as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Purple\/Blue:&nbsp; Outstanding!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(If a student is on\npurple at the end of the day they will get a treat from the treasure box!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Green:&nbsp; Ready to Learn<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(This is ALWAYS the\nexpectation. All students begin the day on Green.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Yellow:&nbsp; Stop and Think About It<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(This is a warning. If\nthe student must be spoken to about behavior more than once, they may be asked\nto go to yellow.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Orange:&nbsp; Needs to Make Better Choices<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(Students may lose 5 minutes\nfree\/recess time.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Red:&nbsp; Parent Contact<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(Teacher contacts\nparents.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Classroom Rules:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Listen when someone is speaking.<\/li><li>Raise your hand to speak.<\/li><li>Feet are for walking.<\/li><li>Follow directions quickly.<\/li><li>Be a caring friend.<\/li><li>Always do your best work.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Attendance:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please make sure your child is in school and on time every\nday.&nbsp; We know things come up and children\nget sick but it is imperative for your child to be in school.&nbsp; Please make sure you come into the building\nand sign your child in if you arrive after the bell rings. Please do everything\npossible to be here on time because frequent interruptions make student\nlearning difficult.&nbsp; The children will be\ndismissed at 3:35 p.m. every day.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Leader in Me:&nbsp; <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our school participates in the Leader in Me program designed\nto empower our students to become leaders in their school, community and at\nhome.&nbsp; You will be receiving more\ninformation on the program as the year goes on.&nbsp;\nPlease encourage your child to be a leader and learn the 7 habits with\nthem (please see 7 Habits handout).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Snack:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We will have snack every day.&nbsp;\nPlease send in a HEALTHY snack for your child daily.&nbsp; (Examples: pretzels, graham crackers, cheese\nand crackers, fresh fruit, etc.)&nbsp; The\nstudents can also bring in a water bottle to place in the back of the room in\ncase they become thirsty during the day.&nbsp;\nPlease CLEARLY LABEL the water bottle with your child\u2019s name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;If anyone would like\nto donate large boxes of cereal, graham crackers, goldfish, etc. for the times\nwhen students forget to bring in a snack I would appreciate it.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>WE HAVE AN ALLERGY IN OUR CLASSROOM.&nbsp; I AM ASKING THAT THERE ARE NO SNACKS BROUGHT\nIN THAT HAVE PEANUTS\/TREE NUTS, SEASEME SEEDS, OR SUNFLOWER SEEDS. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Homework:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your child will bring home a homework folder every day.&nbsp; Students will have weekly math packets and\nthey will be expected to read or be read to for 15 minutes every day. Your\nchild will also have rainbow words to practice weekly (more information will be\ncoming). The homework directly reinforces concepts we are working on in class,\ntherefore, it is an essential part of your child\u2019s learning.&nbsp; The math homework is checked weekly and is\ndue on Friday. On occasion, there may be other homework assignments in the\nfolder that your child will need to complete.&nbsp;\nThat\u2019s why I am asking that you PLEASE look through their folders <strong>EVERYDAY<\/strong> so that they do not miss these\nacademic opportunities.&nbsp; You will also\nfind a behavior chart inside the folder.&nbsp;\nI will mark your child\u2019s daily behavior color on this calendar.&nbsp; You will be asked to initial the behavior\nchart as well.&nbsp; I am asking that you do\nthis so I know you have seen your child\u2019s behavioral progress each day.&nbsp; There is also a place on the back of the\nbehavior chart where you may write any comments or concerns. It is a great way\nto communicate with one another on a daily basis.&nbsp;&nbsp; I recommend that you have these supplies <strong>at home<\/strong> so that your child can complete\ntheir homework.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Scissors &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &#8211;\nCrayons<\/li><li>Pencils &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &#8211;\nErasers<\/li><li>Glue Sticks<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Star of the Week:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each week there will be a star of the week.&nbsp; This child will enjoy special privileges in\nthe room for that week.&nbsp; The Star of the\nWeek can also bring in an item for show and tell. (Please make sure the item is\nsuitable for school and please do not bring in pets!)&nbsp; The Student of the Week will receive their\nstars on Friday and they will need to be completed and returned by the\nfollowing Monday.&nbsp; Each student will have\nthe opportunity to enjoy this activity during the school year.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Grading:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Grading in Kindergarten is a difficult subject.&nbsp; I will use observations, classwork, small\ngroup notes, and testing to determine your child\u2019s progress.&nbsp; Each child has a Leadership Binder and their\nprogress will be documented in the binder.&nbsp;\nThey will also have individual goals that they will be working towards\nin the classroom for each subject.&nbsp; If\nthere is ever a concern with your child\u2019s progress I will contact you to\ndiscuss it and I hope you will do the same.&nbsp;\nThere may be papers that come home that have no grade on them, it does not\nmean I haven\u2019t seen your child\u2019s work, I may have simply acknowledged that it\nwas completed and took note of their progress.&nbsp;\nI don\u2019t want the students to focus on their \u201cgrade,\u201d I want them to\nfocus on growing academically.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Extra Set of\nClothes:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please send in a change of clothes for your child in case of\nan accident.&nbsp; <strong>(Please put the clothes in a Ziploc bag and label it with your child\u2019s\nname.)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lastly, if you can save these items and bring them in\nthroughout the year it would be appreciated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>-Box Tops for\nEducation<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kindergarten Classroom Here is an overview of our classroom behavior management plan, classroom rules, attendance policy, and homework policy.&nbsp; Please read them carefully and go over them with your child.&nbsp; We will also be looking for volunteers to assist on field trips and for other school functions.
