{"id":734,"date":"2019-10-03T11:11:12","date_gmt":"2019-10-03T15:11:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/ballnic\/?p=734"},"modified":"2019-10-03T11:11:13","modified_gmt":"2019-10-03T15:11:13","slug":"friday-october-4-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/ballnic\/2019\/10\/03\/friday-october-4-2019\/","title":{"rendered":"Friday, October 4, 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Friday, October 4, 2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mrs. Ballnik\u2019s Classroom News<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>My email is\nballnic@dearbornschools.org<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please email me (or use Class Dojo), if you can because I\nread it at least twice a day.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Send\nnotes or call the office and I will get back to you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>SCIENCE<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/strong><strong>Did you notice the\nsun hats that your child came home with.&nbsp;\nThese are hats that were to use materials (matter) with the properties\nto make a good sun hat.&nbsp; We had a Mystery\nScience project that taught how to plan the use of materials based on their properties.&nbsp; We wanted to keep the sun off and absorb\nsweat.&nbsp; We discussed types of brims or no\nbrims on hats.&nbsp; Ask your child to explain\nhow they came up with their design.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>PLANNERS<\/strong>&#8211;\nPlease send these every day because we use them. The spelling words will be\nwritten in them, also. There is a charge, if a planner is lost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SPELLING WORDS FOR NEXT WEEK ARE Different words with LONG\nVOWELS THAT END IN E contrasted with CONSONANT VOWEL CONSONANT WORDS that have\na short vowel sound.&nbsp; Please continue to\npoint out the pattern of the spelling words each week and help your child\ndiscover words with these patterns in their reading.&nbsp; Soon your child will be pointing these out to\nyou, if they do not already.&nbsp; A good idea\nis to get a blank notebook and keep a list.&nbsp;\nSend them in for extra credit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The words will be:&nbsp;\nhope, hop, cute, cut, bit, bite, can, cane, kit, kite, cub, cube, robe,\nrob, fin, fine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are 16 words this week.&nbsp; I correct the test on the weekend and send it\nhome on Monday.&nbsp; Please sign that you see\nthe test and send it back for a sticker.&nbsp;\nMany of you are already doing this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Social Studies<\/strong>&#8211;\nPlease continue to point out things that you see as you walk\/ride through our\nCOMMUNITY of Dearborn.&nbsp; We are studying\nabout community.&nbsp; There are natural\ncharacteristics (tree, river, grass) and human characteristics (bridge, road,\nstore) of our community to be seen.&nbsp;\nPlease discuss these as you see them at home.&nbsp;&nbsp; Can your child name the 5 characteristics of\na community? Transportation, Buildings, Natural Characteristics, Places to have\nFun and Businesses.&nbsp; What does each of\nthese categories mean to your child?&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Now we will be discussing 3 types of communities:&nbsp; Rural\/Country\/, Suburban, Urban\/City.&nbsp; We live in a suburban community.&nbsp; This language can be confusing.&nbsp; Thank-you for discussing things at home, too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Reading Bags<\/strong>&#8211;\nRead the books at home.&nbsp; There is a\nletter inside the bag, if you did not see it.&nbsp;\nThe bookroom is at the other end of the school, so books are not replaced\nquickly.&nbsp; Please read books more than\nonce, especially if any words are missed.&nbsp;\nDon\u2019t stop going to your neighborhood library, also.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Friday, October 4, 2019 Mrs. Ballnik\u2019s Classroom News My email is ballnic@dearbornschools.org Please email me (or use Class Dojo), if you can because I read it at least twice a day.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Send notes or call the office and I will get back to you.
