For example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>addition; duration; nation; solution; ambition; edition; caution; position.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>*If the noun is related to a word ending in <em>-ate<\/em>, then the ending will be <em>-ation<\/em>, e.g. <em>donation<\/em> (from <em>donate<\/em>) or <em>vacation<\/em> (from <em>vacate<\/em>).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are some more examples:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>accommodation; location; creation; rotation; education; mediation.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>*If the ending comes after any consonant apart from <em>-l, -n<\/em>, or <em>-r<\/em>, then the ending is spelled <em>-tion<\/em>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>action; connection; reception; affection; interruption; description; collection; infection; deception.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>*After <em>-n<\/em> and <em>-r<\/em>, the ending can be <em>-tion<\/em> or <em>-sion<\/em>. It&#8217;s more likely to be <em>-tion<\/em> if the word&#8217;s related to another one that ends in <em>-t<\/em> or <em>-tain<\/em>, e.g. <em>assertion<\/em> (from <em>assert<\/em>) or <em>retention<\/em> (from <em>retain<\/em>).
