Automotive Technology Course Sequence<\/b><\/p>\n

Consumer Auto<\/b><\/em><\/p>\n Course Description:<\/b><\/p>\n Consumer Auto is a one semester, introductory class designed to give students the knowledge to do preventative maintenance on a vehicle and make good economic decisions in order to enhance the experience of owning a vehicle. The course will also explore the fundamentals of how a car works, basic tools, safety around an automobile, automotive accessories and how to handle emergencies and buying and selling cars.<\/p>\n Prerequisites:<\/b> None<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Auto 1<\/b><\/em><\/p>\n 1 hour \/ 1 Semester<\/b><\/p>\n Course Description:\u00a0\u00a0 <\/b><\/p>\n This course is designed to introduce the student to the technology, safety, systems and careers related to the engine and the automobile. This course is prerequisite to the other automotive courses. The duration of the course is one hour per day for one semester.<\/p>\n Prerequisites: <\/b>None<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Auto 2 <\/b><\/em><\/p>\n 1 hour \/ 1 Semester<\/b><\/p>\n Course Description:<\/b><\/p>\n This course gives the student an opportunity to practice basic vehicle inspection and maintenance like lubrication and cooling system service. It also teaches the student how to diagnose and repair basic electrical and electronic parts. Topics include electronic fundamentals, batteries, charging systems and starting systems.<\/p>\n Prerequisites: <\/b>Auto 1<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Auto 3 \/ Automotive Electronics and Electricity<\/b><\/em><\/p>\n 2 hour block\/ 1 Semester<\/b><\/p>\n Course Description:\u00a0\u00a0 <\/b><\/p>\n This course will provide the student with instruction on theory, how to diagnose and how to repair electrical and electronic parts and systems of the automobile. Topics include electronic fundamentals, batteries, charging systems, starting systems, lighting systems, driver information systems, and other various accessories systems. Emphasis is placed on job level skill development and to assist the student in developing the ability to take the State of Michigan Auto Mechanics Certification Test for Electrical and Electronic Systems.<\/p>\n Prerequisites:<\/b><\/p>\n Auto 1<\/p>\n Auto 2<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Auto 4 \/ Automotive Engine Performance<\/b><\/em><\/p>\n 2 hour block\/ 1 Semester<\/b><\/p>\n Course Description:\u00a0\u00a0 <\/b><\/p>\n This course will provide the student with instruction on theory of operation, how to diagnose and how to repair all aspects of an automobile engine\u2019s operating system. Topics include ignition systems, electronic fuel injection systems, engine management systems, mechanical engine problems and drivability issues. Emphasis is placed on job level skill development and to assist the student in developing the ability to take the State of Michigan Auto Mechanics Certification Test for Tune-up\/ Performance.<\/p>\n Prerequisites:<\/b><\/p>\n Auto1<\/p>\n Auto2<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Auto 5 \/ Automotive Brakes<\/b><\/em><\/p>\n 2 hour block\/ 1 Semester<\/b><\/p>\n Course Description:\u00a0\u00a0 <\/b><\/p>\n This course will provide the student with instruction on theory of operation, how to diagnose and how to repair all aspects of a vehicles braking system. Topics include machine turning of brake drums and rotors (both on and off car), servicing and repairing master cylinders, power brake boosters, brake lines, switches and valves and ABS system diagnosis and repair. Emphasis is placed on job level skill development and to assist the student in developing the ability to take the State of Michigan Auto Mechanics Certification Test for Brakes.<\/p>\n Prerequisites:<\/b><\/p>\n Auto1<\/p>\n Auto 2<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Auto 6 \/ Automotive Suspension and Steering<\/b><\/em><\/p>\n 2 hour block\/ 1 Semester<\/b><\/p>\n Course Description:\u00a0\u00a0 <\/b><\/p>\n This course will provide the student with a comprehensive study of suspension systems with the emphasis on wheel alignment.
