If the weather is sunny and the animal sees its shadow, it is said that winter will be extended for six more weeks of winter weather. However, if the groundhog does not see its shadow, than SPRING will arrive sooner than later.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-mh=\"-1\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/static.parade.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/groundhog-day-ftr.jpg\" alt=\"Image result for what is groundhog day\" width=\"310\" height=\"194\" \/><\/div>\n<div data-mh=\"-1\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/div>\n<div data-mh=\"-1\" aria-hidden=\"true\">History of Groundhog Day:<\/div>\n<div data-mh=\"-1\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/div>\n<div data-mh=\"-1\" aria-hidden=\"true\">When German settlers arrived in the United States in the 1700s, they brought a tradition known as Candlemas Day.\u00a0 Candlemas Day came at the mid-point between the <strong><u>Winter <\/u><\/strong>and the <strong><u>Spring<\/u><\/strong> seasons.\u00a0 Superstition told that if the weather was nice on that day, the second half of <strong><u>winter<\/u><\/strong> would be stormy and cold.\u00a0\u00a0These settlers first celebrated &#8220;Groundhog&#8217;s Day&#8221; in Pennsylvania &#8212; &#8220;Punxsutawney Phil&#8221; from Punxsutawney.
