{"id":716,"date":"2016-11-16T10:00:02","date_gmt":"2016-11-16T15:00:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/alberta\/?p=716"},"modified":"2016-11-16T11:21:05","modified_gmt":"2016-11-16T16:21:05","slug":"homework","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/alberta\/2016\/11\/16\/homework\/","title":{"rendered":"Homework"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">From Mrs. Burch:<\/span><\/p>\n<header class=\"entry-header\">\n<h2 class=\"entry-title\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/howard.dearbornschools.org\/2016\/11\/14\/no-more-card-flips-light-changes-for-homework\/\" rel=\"bookmark\">No more card flips (light changes) for homework<\/a><\/span><\/h2>\n<div class=\"entry-meta\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><span class=\"posted-on\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" title=\"12:17 pm\" href=\"https:\/\/howard.dearbornschools.org\/2016\/11\/14\/no-more-card-flips-light-changes-for-homework\/\" rel=\"bookmark\"><time class=\"entry-date published\" datetime=\"2016-11-14T12:17:56+00:00\">November 14, 2016<\/time><\/a><\/span> <span class=\"byline\"><span class=\"author vcard\">by <a class=\"url fn n\" style=\"color: #3366ff;\" title=\"View all posts by Martha Burch\" href=\"https:\/\/howard.dearbornschools.org\/author\/burchm\/\" rel=\"author\"><span class=\"author-name\">Martha Burch<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">Parents,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">The PBIS committee has determined that teachers will no longer flip cards\/change lights for homework. \u00a0In reviewing our data over the last few years, we realize that an extraordinary amount of students are being flipped for not completing homework assignments. \u00a0There has been little change in the behavior as a result of the practice of flipping the cards (changing the light), so we have abolished the practice. \u00a0PBIS endorses the teaching and reteaching of expectations, reflection on and correction of undesired behaviors, and a 4 to 1 positive to corrective feedback interaction. \u00a0The PBIS model also promotes NATURAL consequences for chronic, undesirable behaviors. \u00a0The natural consequences for not completing homework assignments are lower homework grade and losing certain privileges because that time is spent completing homework. \u00a0This is what students can expect to see in middle and high school.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">The teachers have discussed and understand that homework is for PRACTICE, so that students are able reinforce the learning from that day ON THEIR OWN. \u00a0 They may also be asked to complete classwork at home if they were unable during the time allotted. \u00a0Please email me with any questions. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">-Mrs. Burch<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong><em>*Keep in mind that homework WILL be a homework grade now. Most of the homework in here is practicing our math and\/or reviewing for quizzes or tests. If your child does not complete the homework, it will result in a &#8220;zero&#8221; for that assignment, thus affecting their grade. They will not get a 2nd chance to make it up. Addtionally, if a child does not finish a specific classwork assignment, i.e. weekly Spelling, they are still responsible for taking it home and finishing it on their own. It will result in a card flip if it is not finished.
