{"id":86,"date":"2013-12-09T10:06:52","date_gmt":"2013-12-09T15:06:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/alabakoffj\/?p=86"},"modified":"2013-12-09T10:06:52","modified_gmt":"2013-12-09T15:06:52","slug":"week-of-december-9-13","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/alabakoffj\/2013\/12\/09\/week-of-december-9-13\/","title":{"rendered":"Week of December 9-13"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Reminders:<\/p>\n<p>As snow arrives, so must boots and snowpants. \u00a0If students would like to play in the snow during recess and lunch times, they must have the proper attire. \u00a0If your child is wearing boots in the morning, please be sure they pack shoes as well. \u00a0The should not be wearing their boots all day.<\/p>\n<p>Thursday, Dec. 12th&#8211;Holiday concert at Stout&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Friday, Dec. 13th&#8211;field trip to IMAX to see Polar Express. \u00a0We will be leaving at approximately 9:00. \u00a0Students may \u00a0bring money for pop and popcorn.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We are learning:<\/p>\n<p>Spelling&#8211;Students are working on their individual lists. \u00a0Some students have completed the high frequency words lists. \u00a0Next week we will move on to words with a common pattern.<\/p>\n<p>Daily5\/Cafe&#8211;Our focus this week is Compare\/contrast. \u00a0We are using our Science knowledge of animals along with text to compare and contrast creatures in the Coral Reef. \u00a0We will then work on summarizing.<\/p>\n<p>Writer&#8217;s Workshop&#8211;This week we will be finishing up with our persuasive\/letter writing. \u00a0Students are working with a partner to write letters. \u00a0Then each student will be writing their own opinion piece with supporting details. \u00a0We are working on using transitional words in our writing.<\/p>\n<p>Math&#8211;Third grade will be working on perimeter and area. \u00a0We will be learning about how to calculate perimeter and the two different ways to find area.<\/p>\n<p>Fourth grade is working on multiplication and division. \u00a0We have discussed fact families and will focus this week \u00a0on equations and using parentheses in equations. \u00a0We will also do some review with measuring using a map and map scale.<\/p>\n<p>Science&#8211;This week Fourth grade will focus on food chains and food webs. \u00a0We will also learn about fossils and how they help us understand the past.<\/p>\n<p>Third grade will be finishing up with animal adaptations .<\/p>\n<p>Both grades will be assessed on Living Things on Friday. \u00a0Look for their yellow Living Things folder to come home to help with studying. \u00a0Your child should bring it back to school each day so we can also review in class.<\/p>\n<p>Have a good week!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Reminders: As snow arrives, so must boots and snowpants. \u00a0If students would like to play in the snow during recess and lunch times, they must have the proper attire. \u00a0If your child is wearing boots in the morning, please be sure they pack shoes as well. \u00a0The should not be wearing their boots all day.
