{"id":75,"date":"2013-12-03T08:56:54","date_gmt":"2013-12-03T13:56:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/alabakoffj\/?p=75"},"modified":"2013-12-03T08:56:54","modified_gmt":"2013-12-03T13:56:54","slug":"week-of-december-2-6","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/alabakoffj\/2013\/12\/03\/week-of-december-2-6\/","title":{"rendered":"Week of December 2-6"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome back! \u00a0I hope everyone enjoyed time with family and friends with good food! \u00a0The holidays will be here before we know it! \u00a0We will be planning our holiday party &#8212; details to follow.<\/p>\n<p>This Week:<\/p>\n<p>Spelling&#8211;Students are working on individual lists. \u00a0Remember that if your child spells a word wrong on his\/her test, the word will become part of the next week&#8217;s list. \u00a0We are focusing on students spelling the words correctly in their writing.<\/p>\n<p>Daily 5\/Cafe&#8211;Our focus this week is using main idea and details to summarize the text.<\/p>\n<p>Writer&#8217;s Workshop&#8211;We have finished our narrative stories and will now move on to opinion writing. \u00a0Students are using think, pair, share to develop ideas. \u00a0We will then write a letter stating our opinion with reasons and details.<\/p>\n<p>Math&#8211;Third grade students are beginning Unit 3. \u00a0We are measuring using various units. \u00a0 Students will be estimating and measuring objects to the nearest 1\/4 inch and cm. \u00a0We will also develop a list of personal references to estimate lengths of objects. \u00a0It would be very helpful if your child practiced measuring the lengths of various objects at home in inches and cm. As mentioned at conferences, we are also starting with practice of multiplication facts. \u00a0I am giving some practice sheets, but it is important that your child practice their facts at home.<\/p>\n<p>Fourth grade focus for Unit 3 is Multiplication. \u00a0We are working on identifying factors, multiples and prime numbers. \u00a0Students should be sure to practice their facts for multiplication and division. \u00a0We are taking timed tests that are 6 minutes now. \u00a0Many of the fourth graders need to still master these facts.<\/p>\n<p>Science&#8211;Both grades are working on the study of animals. \u00a0We are discussing characteristics of vertebrates using our lapbook. \u00a0We will also focus on animal adaptations. \u00a0Finally, we will be moving on to food chains and food webs.<\/p>\n<p>Keep Warm!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome back! \u00a0I hope everyone enjoyed time with family and friends with good food! \u00a0The holidays will be here before we know it! \u00a0We will be planning our holiday party &#8212; details to follow.
