{"id":690,"date":"2018-01-08T12:26:22","date_gmt":"2018-01-08T17:26:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/alabakoffj\/?p=690"},"modified":"2018-01-08T12:26:22","modified_gmt":"2018-01-08T17:26:22","slug":"week-of-january-8-12","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/alabakoffj\/2018\/01\/08\/week-of-january-8-12\/","title":{"rendered":"Week of January 8-12"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Happy New Year!\u00a0 It is so nice to see all the smiling faces and hear all about the fun that was had over the break!\u00a0 I hope everyone enjoyed time with family even with the freezing cold temperatures!<\/p>\n<p>I am giving the students my thank you cards for all the fantastic and generous gifts I received!\u00a0 I feel it is already a gift that I get to spend each day with your children!<\/p>\n<p>Please remember to send your child with snowpants, boots, hats and gloves.\u00a0 We will be going outside as long as the temperature is reasonable.\u00a0 They loooove to play in the snow, so it is great fun if we can get outside!\u00a0 The fresh air does their body and brain good!!<\/p>\n<p>This week we are learning:<\/p>\n<p>Spelling&#8211;This week pattern is the \/ur\/ spelled with er, or, ir or ur.\u00a0 We also have descriptive, organize, audience and optimist as our word of the week.<\/p>\n<p>Daily 5\/CAFE&#8211;We are finishing up this week with chapter books for literature circles if students have not already done so.\u00a0 Most groups will be working on a culminating activity using the strategies they practiced.\u00a0 We will also be doing some work with mythology by looking at themes and characters, doing comparing and contrasting.\u00a0 \u00a0We may also be starting inferencing.<\/p>\n<p>Writer&#8217;s Workshop&#8211;We will be brainstorming ideas for our New Year&#8217;s Resolutions.\u00a0 Students will then be writing their own resolutions and setting goals for themselves.<\/p>\n<p>Math&#8211;We are moving on to larger multiplication.\u00a0 We will begin by looking at patterns in multiples of ten.\u00a0 \u00a0Students will then learn different strategies for solving multi-digit multiplication problems.\u00a0 IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT THAT STUDENTS KNOW THEIR BASIC FACTS IN ORDER TO MAKE THE LARGER MULTIPLICATION FASTER AND EASIER.\u00a0 \u00a0We will continue the timed tests, but will not be practicing the facts in class.<\/p>\n<p>Science\/Social Studies&#8211;We are starting the week with an activity on why snow is white and will then move on to Social Studies.\u00a0 Students will be learning about human\/environment interaction.<\/p>\n<p>Have a great week!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Happy New Year!\u00a0 It is so nice to see all the smiling faces and hear all about the fun that was had over the break!\u00a0 I hope everyone enjoyed time with family even with the freezing cold temperatures!
