{"id":61,"date":"2013-11-11T14:20:13","date_gmt":"2013-11-11T19:20:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/alabakoffj\/?p=61"},"modified":"2013-11-11T14:20:13","modified_gmt":"2013-11-11T19:20:13","slug":"week-of-november-11-15","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/alabakoffj\/2013\/11\/11\/week-of-november-11-15\/","title":{"rendered":"Week of November 11-15"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Reminders for this week:<\/p>\n<p>Wed. 11\/13&#8211;Late start<\/p>\n<p>Thurs. 11\/14 Conferences<\/p>\n<p>Candle order fundraisers forms for camp are due Wednesday. \u00a0We need to sell $1500 to get free shipping so we are hoping everyone sold at least 2.<\/p>\n<p>We collected 132 pounds of candy for the troops! \u00a0Thank you for all the candy donations to support our troops!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We are learning:<\/p>\n<p>Spelling&#8211;Students are working on individual list words. \u00a0We are using word work to practice words using various hands-on materials. \u00a0Tests are taken on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Daily5\/CAFE&#8211;Our focus this week is character traits. \u00a0We are using evidence in the story to help determine the traits of the characters. \u00a0Students are also finishing up their book club projects.<\/p>\n<p>Writer&#8217;s Workshop&#8211;We are beginning to write a narrative story. \u00a0We will begin with a grahpic organizer to organize the parts of our story.<\/p>\n<p>Math&#8211;Third graders are working on number stories this week and we are also reviewing subtraction and addition with regrouping. \u00a0Along with the addition and subtraction is ball park estimating. \u00a0Be sure to utilize the Everyday Math website to practice and reinforce at home.<\/p>\n<p>Third graders are also starting to practice multiplication facts. \u00a0We will not be starting the unit on multiplication quite yet, but thought we would start practicing!<\/p>\n<p>Fourth grade is working on larger number values and rounding. \u00a0We will then be collecting data, making charts and graphs and analyzing the data.<\/p>\n<p>Science&#8211;We are focusing on plants and how to classify them. \u00a0We will also learn about various types of plant adaptations. \u00a0Be sure to ask your child about the experiment with seeds they did. \u00a0We planted three different kinds and determined if seeds need sun to germinate. \u00a0Students are observing how they grow.<\/p>\n<p>Enjoy your week!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Reminders for this week: Wed. 11\/13&#8211;Late start Thurs. 11\/14 Conferences Candle order fundraisers forms for camp are due Wednesday. \u00a0We need to sell $1500 to get free shipping so we are hoping everyone sold at least 2.
