{"id":548,"date":"2017-01-24T13:54:22","date_gmt":"2017-01-24T18:54:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/alabakoffj\/?p=548"},"modified":"2017-01-24T13:54:22","modified_gmt":"2017-01-24T18:54:22","slug":"week-of-january-23-27","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/alabakoffj\/2017\/01\/24\/week-of-january-23-27\/","title":{"rendered":"Week of January 23-27"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This Week:<\/p>\n<p>Math&#8211;Math tests are coming home today! \u00a0The students did great! \u00a0Please continue practicing perimeter and area and multiplication facts!<\/p>\n<p>We are starting on the next unit which is place value. \u00a0Coming home today is a short quiz I did with each individual student to assess what they know about reading large numbers. \u00a0Please take the time to review this with your child and practice at home. \u00a0Some students were able to read larger numbers than to the ten thousands place, and I noted this on the bottom. \u00a0I will be differentiating for these students as well by giving them larger number activities. \u00a0Tonight&#8217;s homework only goes up to the ten thousands, but students need practice differentiating between the place of a digit and it&#8217;s value. \u00a0It would be helpful to reinforce this at home.<\/p>\n<p>We are also continuing our facts tests for our ice cream toppings. \u00a0Please practice these at home.<\/p>\n<p>Spelling&#8211;Our focus this week is the oi and oy spelling patterns. \u00a0Students need to focus on both the pattern and sound.<\/p>\n<p>Daily5\/Cafe&#8211;We are working on main idea and details with nonfiction. \u00a0Students are also practicing strategies in their own individual books.<\/p>\n<p>Writer&#8217;s Workshop&#8211;We are finishing up with our &#8220;Duck on a Bike&#8221; stories where we learned about organization of our writing. \u00a0We also added quotations into this writing with the proper punctuation.<\/p>\n<p>Social Studies&#8211;We should finish up with our Michigan history unit by the end of the week. \u00a0The students have been very excited to learn about the history. \u00a0We will be learning how Michigan became a state this week! \u00a0Ask your child to tell you about how Michigan became a state!<\/p>\n<p>Have a great week!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This Week: Math&#8211;Math tests are coming home today! \u00a0The students did great! \u00a0Please continue practicing perimeter and area and multiplication facts!
