{"id":53,"date":"2013-10-21T13:01:49","date_gmt":"2013-10-21T17:01:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/alabakoffj\/?p=53"},"modified":"2013-10-21T13:01:49","modified_gmt":"2013-10-21T17:01:49","slug":"week-of-october-21-25","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/alabakoffj\/2013\/10\/21\/week-of-october-21-25\/","title":{"rendered":"Week of October 21-25"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Thank you to parents who walked with us to the Farmer&#8217;s Market on Friday. \u00a0The kids had a great time and learned a lot about all the products made in Michigan!<\/p>\n<p>Reminders this Week:<\/p>\n<p>Math MEAP this week for both grades. \u00a0We will finish up on Tuesday!<\/p>\n<p>We will be having a Halloween\/Fall Celebration on Thursday, October 31st. \u00a0We will be having a breakfast to celebrate this year. \u00a0I will be posting a signup sheet outside the room this week. \u00a0Please sign up for what item you are willing to donate. \u00a0 Thank you in advance!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We are learning:<\/p>\n<p>Spelling&#8211;Students made their list today and the test will be on Friday. \u00a0We are continuing to work on their high frequency words.<\/p>\n<p>Daily5\/CAFE&#8211;Our focus this week is Expanding Vocabulary by tuning into interesting words and we will also work on Using Prior Knowledge to Connect to the text. \u00a0Students are continuing to work on their individual goals and I am conferencing with them individually and in small groups. \u00a0Be sure to ask your child about their goal and what strategy he\/she is working on for their reading.<\/p>\n<p>Writer&#8217;s Workshop&#8211;We are working on informational writing and students completed a quick write about their favorite book. \u00a0We will be now using facts to complete an piece of informational writing. \u00a0Third grade will be using Michigan facts and Fourth will be using information about the United States regions.<\/p>\n<p>Math&#8211;Third grade is working in Unit 1 and is currently looking at graphs and information. \u00a0We will be discussing maximum, minimum, range, median and mode. \u00a0 We will then move on to money and making change.<\/p>\n<p>Fourth grade is working in Unit 1 on lines, line segments, polygons and will also do some practice with mental math patterns with addition and subtraction.<\/p>\n<p>Social Studies&#8211;Third grade is finishing up their study of Michigan Geography. \u00a0They will be bringing home their folders with a study guide for review. \u00a0They will be assessed this week on the information.<\/p>\n<p>Fourth grade is working on spatial maps and their purpose. \u00a0They will then look at the regions of the United States and compare\/contrast them.<\/p>\n<p>After both groups are finished with geography, we will move onto Life Science toward the end of the week.<\/p>\n<p>Have a warm week!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Thank you to parents who walked with us to the Farmer&#8217;s Market on Friday. \u00a0The kids had a great time and learned a lot about all the products made in Michigan!
