{"id":501,"date":"2016-11-01T10:23:44","date_gmt":"2016-11-01T14:23:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/alabakoffj\/?p=501"},"modified":"2016-11-01T10:23:44","modified_gmt":"2016-11-01T14:23:44","slug":"week-of-october-31st-november-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/alabakoffj\/2016\/11\/01\/week-of-october-31st-november-4\/","title":{"rendered":"Week of October 31st-November 4"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Reminders:<\/p>\n<p>1\/2 day Friday<\/p>\n<p>No School&#8211;Tuesday, November 8th<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Thank you so much to all parents helping out with Halloween celebration! \u00a0The donations for the breakfast were awesome and I could not have done it without all the helpful parent volunteers. \u00a0The kids had a great time!! \u00a0I hope everyone enjoyed the trick-or-treating last night!<\/p>\n<p>We are learning:<\/p>\n<p>Spelling&#8211;No unit this week<\/p>\n<p>Daily 5\/Cafe&#8211;We are exploring legends, specifically Michigan legends. \u00a0Students are learning about the elements of this genre and are identifying character traits based on evidence from the story. \u00a0We are also working on our book club books. \u00a0Students are discussing and will finish up with their books, most likely this week. \u00a0Each group will then do a book club project of their choice to present the book.<\/p>\n<p>Writer&#8217;s Workshop&#8211;We are continuing our Zebra Mussel informational paragraphs. \u00a0Students have learned how to formulate a topic sentence and include details to make a paragraph. \u00a0They are utilizing the information they found about the Zebra Mussels from the internet search.<\/p>\n<p>Math&#8211;Our focus this week will be the beginning of multiplication. \u00a0Students will be learning about the concept of Multiplying numbers and what each number represents. \u00a0We will be drawing models and start learning our facts. \u00a0Please be sure to start practicing with your child. \u00a0We will be learning the facts in a bit of a different order so it makes a bit more sense to students. \u00a0For example, we will be learning our 2 facts along with our 4 facts&#8230;.3 with 6 and 9 etc. \u00a0It is important your child knows that 2&#215;6 represents two groups of six.<\/p>\n<p>Science&#8211;We are now switching our focus to Science after completing our unit on Michigan Geography. \u00a0We did discuss resources for Social Studies and will now explore earth&#8217;s materials and how they are used. \u00a0We will start with exploring the properties of rocks and minerals.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you to Mrs. Sullivan for the Better Made pretzels for Michigan Made!!<\/p>\n<p>Have a warm and sunny week!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Reminders: 1\/2 day Friday No School&#8211;Tuesday, November 8th &nbsp; Thank you so much to all parents helping out with Halloween celebration! \u00a0The donations for the breakfast were awesome and I could not have done it without all the helpful parent volunteers. \u00a0The kids had a great time!! \u00a0I hope everyone enjoyed the trick-or-treating last night!
