{"id":487,"date":"2016-10-18T13:19:49","date_gmt":"2016-10-18T17:19:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/alabakoffj\/?p=487"},"modified":"2016-10-18T13:19:49","modified_gmt":"2016-10-18T17:19:49","slug":"week-of-october-17th-21st","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/alabakoffj\/2016\/10\/18\/week-of-october-17th-21st\/","title":{"rendered":"Week of October 17th-21st"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Reminders for this week:<\/p>\n<p>Rouge Factory tour &#8212; Friday October 21st<\/p>\n<p>Halloween Dance &#8212; Friday October 21st 5:30-8:00<\/p>\n<p>We will be leaving in the morning. \u00a0Those parents chaperoning can come up with your child.<\/p>\n<p>Students (and adults) should bring a bag lunch with a drink. \u00a0No glass bottles please. \u00a0We will be eating lunch there and walking back to school after lunch.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We are learning:<\/p>\n<p>Spelling &#8212; This week our focus is blends. \u00a0We will be making connections with other words in that have blends (fl, st, sl etc.) . \u00a0Students often look for blends in their books and in their writing.<\/p>\n<p>Daily5\/Cafe&#8211;We should be finishing up our study of fables\/folktales this week and will move on to myths. \u00a0Students are doing character analysis using the characters in the fables and folktales. \u00a0We will be using graphic organizers to compare\/contrast characters in the stories.<\/p>\n<p>Writer&#8217;s Workshop&#8211;Students are finishing up their &#8220;room&#8221; stories by adding linking words and more descriptive language.<\/p>\n<p>Math&#8211;We are working on subtraction of numbers to 1000. \u00a0We are also doing number stories using both addition and subtraction. \u00a0Students are learning various strategies for solving these problems. \u00a0 Students who master the concept move on to more challenging problems.<\/p>\n<p>Social Studies &#8212; A BIG thank you to the Saylors for the McClure&#8217;s Pickles. \u00a0We enjoyed them! \u00a0Many of the kids even liked the spicy ones!!<\/p>\n<p>We will soon be finishing up with our study of the Geography of Michigan. \u00a0Our focus this week is how humans use and modify the environment. \u00a0We will also discuss reasons for movement to and from Michigan.<\/p>\n<p>We are going to also encorporate some of our Science concepts into Social Studies by looking at Earth&#8217;s resources. \u00a0Students have been bringing in various rocks and minerals from Michigan. \u00a0We will explore the properties of these rocks and minerals as well.<\/p>\n<p>Have a wonderful week!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Reminders for this week: Rouge Factory tour &#8212; Friday October 21st Halloween Dance &#8212; Friday October 21st 5:30-8:00 We will be leaving in the morning. \u00a0Those parents chaperoning can come up with your child.
