{"id":478,"date":"2016-10-11T07:36:24","date_gmt":"2016-10-11T11:36:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/alabakoffj\/?p=478"},"modified":"2016-10-11T07:44:35","modified_gmt":"2016-10-11T11:44:35","slug":"week-of-october-10th-14th","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/alabakoffj\/2016\/10\/11\/week-of-october-10th-14th\/","title":{"rendered":"Week of October 10th-14th"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Reminders:<\/p>\n<p>PTA Meeting tonight 7pm<\/p>\n<p>1\/2 day Friday<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We are learning:<\/p>\n<p>Spelling&#8211;Our focus this week is long and short u. \u00a0Please review the words with your child and discuss spelling patterns. \u00a0Students are also making connections with other u words in reading and writing.<\/p>\n<p>Daily5\/CAFE&#8211;We will be finishing up our study of folktales and fables this week and will then move on to myths. \u00a0We are learning about the characters and using evidence from the story to identify traits. \u00a0We are also working on using that information to draw conclusions. \u00a0This week we are also starting book club, where students work in small groups for discussions of their books. \u00a0We work on individual strategies and then create a book sharing project at the end of the book. \u00a0Lots of fun and learning!!<\/p>\n<p>Writer&#8217;s Workshop&#8211;This week we started a narrative fantasy piece. \u00a0We read &#8220;The Flying Dragon Room&#8221; \u00a0for inspiration. \u00a0Students created their plan and are now starting on first drafts. \u00a0Our focus is on making our stories very descriptive with adjectives.<\/p>\n<p>Social Studies&#8211;Our focus this week is natural resources in Michigan and how people use them. \u00a0We will also learn about positive and negative consequences of their use.<\/p>\n<p>We sampled Garden Fresh salsa and chips this last Friday for Michigan Made.<\/p>\n<p>Math&#8211;Students are practicing addition with regrouping and this week we are starting on subtraction. \u00a0We will work on different strategies for the subtraction as well. \u00a0Students usually end up having a favorite that works for them, but it is important for them to know the different strategies. \u00a0Subtraction usually gives them more trouble, so it would be helpful for them to practice at home.<\/p>\n<p>Enjoy your week!!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Reminders: PTA Meeting tonight 7pm 1\/2 day Friday &nbsp; We are learning: Spelling&#8211;Our focus this week is long and short u. \u00a0Please review the words with your child and discuss spelling patterns. \u00a0Students are also making connections with other u words in reading and writing.
