{"id":309,"date":"2016-01-04T12:52:57","date_gmt":"2016-01-04T17:52:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/alabakoffj\/?p=309"},"modified":"2016-01-04T12:52:57","modified_gmt":"2016-01-04T17:52:57","slug":"week-of-january-4-8","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/alabakoffj\/2016\/01\/04\/week-of-january-4-8\/","title":{"rendered":"Week of January 4-8"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome Back! \u00a0I hope everyone enjoyed a fun, restful break with family and friends! \u00a0I sure did!<\/p>\n<p>I want to thank everyone for the wonderful gifts and all the help for the Holiday breakfast! \u00a0It is so nice to have all the parental support! \u00a0I look forward to all great things in 2016!<\/p>\n<p>Please remind your children to dress for the weather. \u00a0When we are able, we will be going outside, so it is important students have hats, gloves and snow pants and boots when necessary.<\/p>\n<p>This week we are learning:<\/p>\n<p>Spelling&#8211;Our focus this week is the ow chunk, that makes the long o sound. \u00a0It is important students practice their words, but also the chunk with the sound. \u00a0We are making connections to other words with the same pattern. \u00a0We discussed how the ow doesn&#8217;t always make the long o sound!<\/p>\n<p>Daily 5\/Cafe&#8211;Students are working on their individual goals and strategies. \u00a0We are working on getting &#8220;deeper&#8221; into the books. \u00a0We also will be working on cause and effect utilizing our unit in Michigan history to integrate Social Studies. \u00a0Students will also continue working on collecting information for main idea and details.<\/p>\n<p>Writer&#8217;s Workshop&#8211;This week we will be working on creating a quatrain snow poem! \u00a0We have a little inspiration now!<\/p>\n<p>Science&#8211;We have begun our unit on light and sound by discussing the various forms of energy. \u00a0Students are creating a superhero that utilizes one of the types of energy we have discussed. \u00a0We will then delve further into the study of light.<\/p>\n<p>Social Studies&#8211;We are continuing our unit in Michigan history. \u00a0Students will be learning the French and British explorers, how they affected Michigan and their interaction with the Native American tribes.<\/p>\n<p>Math&#8211;Our focus will be area and perimeter. \u00a0We will be learning about the different ways to find area, including work on measuring to the nearest inch, 1\/2 inch and 1\/4 inch.<\/p>\n<p>STUDENTS SHOULD STILL CONTINUE TO PRACTICE THEIR MULTIPLICATION FACTS AS WELL!<\/p>\n<p>Have a warm week!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome Back! \u00a0I hope everyone enjoyed a fun, restful break with family and friends! \u00a0I sure did!
