{"id":282,"date":"2015-10-12T11:23:55","date_gmt":"2015-10-12T15:23:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/alabakoffj\/?p=282"},"modified":"2015-10-12T11:23:55","modified_gmt":"2015-10-12T15:23:55","slug":"week-of-october-12th-16th","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/alabakoffj\/2015\/10\/12\/week-of-october-12th-16th\/","title":{"rendered":"Week of October 12th-16th"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I hope everyone enjoyed the beautiful weekend! \u00a0I enjoyed the apple orchard with family and friends yesterday! \u00a0Lots of fun!<\/p>\n<p>Reminders for the week:<\/p>\n<p>Friday&#8211;Oct. 16th 11:45 dismissal<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This week we are learning:<\/p>\n<p>Spelling&#8211;Our focus this week is long and short e. \u00a0Students are learning how to transfer the spelling patterns of ea and ee to their writing. \u00a0Be sure to review the words each night and have your child come up with some of their own long and short e words.<\/p>\n<p>Daily5\/Cafe&#8211;We are focusing on folktales as our genre. \u00a0Students will explore their own folktales at their level. \u00a0Many students are also reading chapter books as well. \u00a0We will work on the strategy of making inferences within their folktales. \u00a0 Students will also be identifying action verbs for work on writing.<\/p>\n<p>Writer&#8217;s Workshop&#8211;We are finishing our descriptive pieces today and tomorrow. \u00a0After a short journal entry focusing on voice, we will move on to opinion writing.<\/p>\n<p>Math&#8211;We are doing some last minute wrap up with bar graphs and will then move on to patterns and adding a subtracting multi-digit numbers. \u00a0Students should be practicing their basic facts to make adding and subtracting larger numbers easier. \u00a0We will most likely start our timed addition and subtraction tests on Thursday. \u00a0Your child will be learning different strategies to add and subtract these numbers and will be able to choose what works best for him\/her.<\/p>\n<p>Social Studies&#8211;Students are enjoying gaining more knowledge about Michigan. \u00a0This week we will learn about renewable and non-renewable resources and Michigan examples of each. \u00a0We will also learn about the positive and negative consequences of using these resources. \u00a0 It is important that you ask your child about what he\/she is learning. \u00a0It helps to reinforce the concepts.<\/p>\n<p>Michigan Made this past week was \u00a0Flatout Bread. \u00a0Most of the companies we use have websites and usually give a short history of the company. \u00a0Check them out each week.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you to Mrs. Mathis for setting up the sign up genius for donations! \u00a0Details will follow!<\/p>\n<p>Enjoy your week!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I hope everyone enjoyed the beautiful weekend! \u00a0I enjoyed the apple orchard with family and friends yesterday! \u00a0Lots of fun!
