{"id":218,"date":"2014-10-27T10:00:34","date_gmt":"2014-10-27T14:00:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/alabakoffj\/?p=218"},"modified":"2014-10-27T10:00:34","modified_gmt":"2014-10-27T14:00:34","slug":"week-of-october-27th-31st","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/alabakoffj\/2014\/10\/27\/week-of-october-27th-31st\/","title":{"rendered":"Week of October 27th-31st"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Reminders for the week:<\/p>\n<p>Friday (October 31st)&#8211;Halloween! \u00a0Remember to check the sign-up for our Halloween Breakfast.<\/p>\n<p>Halloween parade at 3:00. \u00a0Students may bring their costumes to dress up. \u00a0Please refer to Mr. Hartley&#8217;s note about the guidelines for costumes.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We are learning:<\/p>\n<p>Spelling&#8211;Our focus this week for third grade is digraphs. \u00a0Fourth grade is working on the ure chunk.<\/p>\n<p>Daily5\/CAFE&#8211;Third grade is exploring the genre of folktales including fables. \u00a0Fourth grade will be focusing on legends. \u00a0We will be identifying the elements of these folktales and will also compare\/contrast various folktales and legends. \u00a0We will also be finishing up with our first book club book. Students are really enjoying their books and discussing them within their groups. Lastly, our strategy focus will be asking questions.<\/p>\n<p>Writer&#8217;s Workshop&#8211;We will be starting our persuasive\/opinion writing this week. \u00a0Students will have a couple prompts to choose from and will be planning, organizing and drafting this week. \u00a0We will be learning about the elements of persuasive writing.<\/p>\n<p>Math&#8211;Third grade will be starting Unit 3 with some review of subtraction and addition with ballpark estimates. \u00a0We will then be working with measuring to the nearest inch. 1\/2 inch, 1\/4 inch. \u00a0Please review at home by having your child measure objects. \u00a0It really helps to reinforce the concept.<\/p>\n<p>Science&#8211;Third graders are working on Earth&#8217;s Materials. \u00a0We are exploring properties of rocks and minerals and will identify what these rocks and minerals are used for in everyday life. \u00a0Students should be finding rocks to bring into class. \u00a0 They should also be starting on their take home minerals projects. \u00a0Have fun and be creative!<\/p>\n<p>Enjoy your week!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Reminders for the week: Friday (October 31st)&#8211;Halloween! \u00a0Remember to check the sign-up for our Halloween Breakfast.
