{"id":212,"date":"2014-10-20T10:18:40","date_gmt":"2014-10-20T14:18:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/alabakoffj\/?p=212"},"modified":"2014-10-20T10:18:40","modified_gmt":"2014-10-20T14:18:40","slug":"october-20th-24th","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/alabakoffj\/2014\/10\/20\/october-20th-24th\/","title":{"rendered":"October 20th-24th"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hope everyone had a great weekend! \u00a0The weather is getting chillier so please be sure your child is dressed for these cold mornings!<\/p>\n<p>Reminders for the Week:<\/p>\n<p>PTA Meeting &#8212; Tuesday, October 21st&#8211;7 p.m. in the cafeteria<\/p>\n<p>Halloween Dance &#8212; Friday, October 24th&#8211;6-8 p.m. \u00a0PTA is looking for baked goods donations.<\/p>\n<p>Please check outside the classroom for the breakfast sign-up for our Halloween breakfast on Oct. 31st.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We are learning:<\/p>\n<p>Spelling&#8211;The focus for third grade this week is blends. \u00a0Fourth grade will be working on long e words. \u00a0We will be making connections with these spelling patterns throughout the week.<\/p>\n<p>Daily 5\/CAFE&#8211;We will be working on the genre of folktales this week and probably next. \u00a0Third grade will focus on fables and fourth grade will focus on legends. \u00a0We will be identifying the elements of folktales and will also compare\/contrast several examples. \u00a0Students will be working on their own individual goals in their books as well.<\/p>\n<p>Students have also begun book club. \u00a0We had our first discussion groups on Friday. \u00a0They are really enjoying their books and discussing them with their classmates.<\/p>\n<p>We also are doing book talks where students get to share books they are reading with the class. \u00a0It has really tuned other students into a variety of books. \u00a0Ask your child if they have shared a book yet.<\/p>\n<p>Writer&#8217;s Workshop&#8211;We are finishing up with our realistic fiction stories (3rd) and Haiku poetry (4th) this week.<\/p>\n<p>Math&#8211;Both grades will be having the Unit 2 assessment this week. \u00a0Fourth grade will be tomorrow and third on Wednesday. \u00a0We will then move onto factors and prime numbers for 4th grade and measuring to the nearest inch, 1\/2 inch and 1\/4 inch for 3rd grade.<\/p>\n<p>Science&#8211;Third graders are exploring the properties of rocks and minerals. \u00a0Look for a take home project which will be coming home later this week. \u00a0Students will have an opportunity to extend their learning with this project.<\/p>\n<p>Have a sunny week!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hope everyone had a great weekend! \u00a0The weather is getting chillier so please be sure your child is dressed for these cold mornings!
