{"id":192,"date":"2014-09-29T08:15:32","date_gmt":"2014-09-29T12:15:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/alabakoffj\/?p=192"},"modified":"2014-09-29T08:15:32","modified_gmt":"2014-09-29T12:15:32","slug":"week-of-september-29th-october-3rd","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/alabakoffj\/2014\/09\/29\/week-of-september-29th-october-3rd\/","title":{"rendered":"Week of September 29th-October 3rd"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hope everyone had a relaxing weekend! \u00a0The weather was so beautiful. \u00a0Hopefully you were able to enjoy a cider mill or apple orchard!<\/p>\n<p>Reminders for this Week:<\/p>\n<p>We will be starting the MAP test. \u00a0A yellow note went home explaining this new assessment. \u00a0Please make sure your child gets plenty of rest and eats a good breakfast.<\/p>\n<p>No School Friday (Oct. 3rd) and Monday (Oct. 6th).<\/p>\n<p>We are learning:<\/p>\n<p>Spelling&#8211;Fourth Grade is focusing on Long o vowels and the spelling patterns that go with the word. \u00a0Third grade will be working on both long and short o.<\/p>\n<p>Daily 5\/Cafe&#8211;This week we will be working on main idea and details. \u00a0Students will be using a graphic organizer to identify main idea and details with a nonfiction selection. \u00a0Fourth graders will also be working on biographies. \u00a0We will also be starting book club this week. \u00a0Students will be working in small groups to read and discuss their book.<\/p>\n<p>We have also begun &#8220;Book Talks.&#8221; \u00a0This is a great way for students to share books they are reading and enjoying. \u00a0Many students choose to pick up the same books that are shared and get really excited about reading these books. \u00a0Each student will have an opportunity to share a book.<\/p>\n<p>Writer&#8217;s Workshop&#8211;Students are finishing up their descriptive writing pieces about their favorite place. \u00a0We will then move on to one more narrative piece. \u00a0Students will use a graphic organizer to organize their ideas before they write.<\/p>\n<p>Math&#8211;Both grades are beginning Unit 2. \u00a0This week third grade will be working on fact families and extension facts. \u00a0They should be practicing their basic facts at home as well. \u00a0We will be starting basic addition and subtraction timed tests. \u00a0 We will also focus on rounding to estimate a sum or difference for larger numbers.<\/p>\n<p>Fourth grade is working on large numbers and how to write these numbers in the three different forms. \u00a0They will also round these numbers to estimate as well.<\/p>\n<p>Social Studies&#8211;Third grade students are doing a great job learning about the geography and resources of Michigan! \u00a0This week we will focus on how humans use and change\/modify the environment. \u00a0If there is time, we will move on to learning about Movement to and from Michigan.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you to Emily Kudreiko&#8217;s family for the delicious windmill St. Claus cookies! \u00a0Yum!<\/p>\n<p>Also thank you to Audrey Malone&#8217;s family for the sweet peanuts&#8211;also so delicious!<\/p>\n<p>Have a great week!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hope everyone had a relaxing weekend! \u00a0The weather was so beautiful. \u00a0Hopefully you were able to enjoy a cider mill or apple orchard!
