A Panel Discussion featuring
\nRegional Superintendents
\nMichigan Legislators<\/p>\n
\nThis discussion will focus on –
\nCan we reverse the academic decline in Michigan\u2019s schools
\nwithout addressing the funding issue?<\/p>\n
\nA recent report released by the US Department of Education notes
\nthat Michigan increased spending on prisons more than five times
\nfaster than it did on public education from 1979-2013. Meanwhile,
\nMichigan school performance continues to fall further behind. At the
\ncurrent rate of decline, our state will rank 48th by 2030.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Panelists will discuss the report\u2019s implications for Michigan\u2019s
\nchildren. After a presentation from the panelists, the audience will
\nhave an opportunity to pose questions to the panelists.<\/p>\n
The Panel moderator will be Alicia Nails, Director of the Journalism
\nInstitute for Media Diversity at Wayne State University.<\/p>\n
