{"id":2253,"date":"2018-08-24T11:41:40","date_gmt":"2018-08-24T15:41:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/adamsk\/?page_id=2253"},"modified":"2020-08-28T11:10:01","modified_gmt":"2020-08-28T15:10:01","slug":"program-explanations-and-activities","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/adamsk\/program-explanations-and-activities\/","title":{"rendered":"Program Explanations and Activities"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The following applies to Face to Face Instruction<\/h2>\n\n\n<p><b>Program Explanations and Activities<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The following pages provide a brief overview of the classroom activities to help acquaint you with our program. \u00a0Each student\u2019s education is primarily guided by the annual IEP document and the extended Grade Level Content Expectations at the Particiaption Level through the following activities. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Morning Routine<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The paraprofessionals and teacher meet the students at the busses at 7:50. The busses arrive between 7:50 and 8:00 a.m. \u00a0The paraprofessionals and teacher assist the children off the busses and into the school. The paraprofessionals maybe riding in on the busses with the students. We then assist the students as needed with coats, book bags and any other personal belongings. Hats and coats are placed on their wheelchairs and stored in the hallway on either side of the door. \u00a0Classroom staff checks backpacks for any home\/school communications, lunch\/snack items, formula, pumps, and\/or braces.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Breakfast and Play and Discovery Time<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Student that eat breakfast are transfer into activity chairs. \u00a0Students that don\u2019t eat breakfast at school are positioned to interact and discover their school environment through play. \u00a0This really looks different for everyone! Some students move into their pacers, some move around on their own and others enjoy stretching out after a long bus ride. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Morning Circle\/Calendar Time<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We use this time each day to make connections with our schedule and the calendar. \u00a0During this time, there are numerous objectives covered in the areas of math and literacy. \u00a0The students work on calendar skills, number concepts, counting, sequencing, pattern recognition, calendar word recognition, schedule, and time concepts. \u00a0Communication buttons are used throughout the lessons to accesses students\u2019 knowledge and to apply academic concepts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Changing Time<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Simultaneously, to Circle Time, Miss Shadia and a classroom para will take turns changing each student. \u00a0The teacher carries on with the remaining students.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Morning Instructional Block<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The paraprofessional will work with the students and help them with their individualized task during this time. \u00a0The teacher works with students in small groups on individualized goals and objectives. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Student Lunch Time<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lunch is served in our classroom. \u00a0The students that eat are in their activity chair and are assisted as needed. \u00a0Other students have unique nutritional needs and this time is structured for their comfort and enjoyment. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Recess or Free Choice Time<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We try to get outside, weather permitting. \u00a0When we play in, some students are busy exploring and others are enjoying a good stretch in comfortable seating. \u00a0The adults in the room engage the student in play during this time. Some of the classroom favorites are ball, peek a boo, and bubbles just to name a few. \u00a0Leisure Recreation an important part of our curriculum.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Afternoon Instructional Block<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Afternoon instruction stems from literacy and branches off into other core curriculum areas. \u00a0Below you will find a curriculum overview:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>English Language Arts:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students are learning functional literacy, comprehension, and communication skills in the following areas:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00b7<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reading Comprehension: Informational text and Narrative text<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00b7<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reading Fluency<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00b7<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reading Word Study<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00b7<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Writing<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00b7<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Grammar<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00b7<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spelling<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00b7<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Handwriting development<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00b7<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Communication: Speaking and listening<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Functional materials like, recipes, signs, personal information are used to address this area of the curriculum<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Math Concepts<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students are working at various levels and are learning functional math skills.
