{"id":108,"date":"2016-01-25T14:47:35","date_gmt":"2016-01-25T19:47:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/adadow\/?p=108"},"modified":"2016-01-26T12:37:46","modified_gmt":"2016-01-26T17:37:46","slug":"conflict-is-normal-for-students-and-adults","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/adadow\/2016\/01\/25\/conflict-is-normal-for-students-and-adults\/","title":{"rendered":"Conflict is normal for students and adults."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Conflict is normal, it is how we learn to solve issues. \u00a0It&#8217;s how we handle it, that counts. \u00a0Do we get angry, and say and do things we later regret (break things or hurt someone&#8217;s feelings)? \u00a0Or do we take time to calm down, consider the situation and use our words to negotiate a win &#8211; win solution?<\/p>\n<p>There will always be situations that we are not in agreement over. \u00a0There will always be people who annoy us or &#8216;push our buttons&#8217; or &#8216;trigger&#8217; us in some way. \u00a0At River Oaks Elementary, we teach students to use different ways \/ \u00a0tools to solve differences with others and handle annoying people. \u00a0We teach calming techniques i.e., take deep breaths, count to 10, take a walk and get a drink of water, write in a journal or talk to a trusted person. \u00a0We also teach a strategie called &#8216;De-Bug&#8217;. \u00a01. \u00a0Ignore (don&#8217;t look at them or talk back (no arguing); turn your shoulder to that person) \u00a02. Talk <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">friendly<\/span> the first time and tell the person to stop. \u00a03. \u00a0Talk<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> firmly<\/span> and tell the person to stop. 4. \u00a0Move away. \u00a0 \u00a05.
