{"id":102,"date":"2016-01-19T11:39:37","date_gmt":"2016-01-19T16:39:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/adadow\/?page_id=102"},"modified":"2016-01-19T11:40:35","modified_gmt":"2016-01-19T16:40:35","slug":"family-pledge-of-non-violence","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/adadow\/family-pledge-of-non-violence\/","title":{"rendered":"Family Pledge of Non Violence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Pledge of Nonviolence<\/p>\n<p>This is the Family Pledge of Nonviolence.\u00a0 Links to other Pledge versions are below.<\/p>\n<p>Institute for Peace and Justice<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Family Pledge of Nonviolence<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Making peace must start within ourselves and in our family.<br \/>\nEach of us, members of the ______________________<br \/>\nfamily, commit ourselves as best we can to become nonviolent and peaceable people:<\/p>\n<p><strong>To Respect Self and Others<br \/>\n<\/strong>To respect myself, to affirm others and to avoid uncaring criticism,<br \/>\nhateful words, physical attacks and self-destructive behavior.<\/p>\n<p><strong>To Communicate Better<br \/>\n<\/strong>To share my feelings honestly, to look for safe ways to express my anger, and to work at solving problems peacefully.<\/p>\n<p><strong>To Listen<\/strong><br \/>\nTo listen carefully to one another, especially those who disagree with me, and to consider others&#8217; feelings and needs rather than insist on having my own way.<\/p>\n<p><strong>To Forgive<br \/>\n<\/strong>To apologize and make amends when I have hurt another,<br \/>\nto forgive others, and to keep from holding grudges.<\/p>\n<p><strong>To Respect Nature<br \/>\n<\/strong>To treat the environment and all living things,<br \/>\nincluding our pets, with respect and care.<\/p>\n<p><strong>To Play Creatively<br \/>\n<\/strong>To select entertainment and toys that support our family&#8217;s values and to avoid entertainment that makes violence look exciting, funny or acceptable.<\/p>\n<p><strong>To Be Courageous<br \/>\n<\/strong>To challenge violence in all its forms whenever I encounter it, whether at home, at school, at work, or in the community, and to stand with others who are treated unfairly.<\/p>\n<p>This is our pledge.\u00a0 These are our goals.\u00a0 We will check ourselves on what we have pledged once a month on\u00a0 ___________\u00a0 for the next twelve months so that we can help each other become more peaceable people.<\/p>\n<p>Pledging family members sign below:<\/p>\n<p>_______________________<\/p>\n<p>_______________________<\/p>\n<p>_______________________<\/p>\n<p>_______________________<\/p>\n<p>_______________________<\/p>\n<p>_______________________<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Eliminating violence, one family at a time, starting with our own.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Family Pledge of Nonviolence is available in many versions and \u00a0languages.\u00a0 To view and print each of the following, please click on the version or language wanted.
