I am looking forward to a rewarding year full of learning with your 4<sup>th<\/sup> grader! During the first week of school we will be spending time getting to know each other and learning classroom routines. It is important that we create a safe learning environment for all students so that learning becomes easier to achieve for everyone.<\/p>\n<p>I have put together a useful informational sheet to help you and your student become familiar with my expectations for the school year. Please take some time to read through the information<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>About Me:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>My name is\u00a0Safiyya Abdullah\u00a0and this will be my\u00a03<sup>rd<\/sup>\u00a0year of teaching at\u00a0Salina Intermediate. \u00a0I was born in Lackawanna, New York and I come from a very diverse cultural background, which I love! I attended Wayne State University, earned a Bachelor\u2019s Degree in Elementary Education, then went on to receive my Master\u2019s Degree in in Bilingual\/Bi-cultural Education with a focus on ESL. I love teaching at Salina\u00a0Intermediate! I am looking forward to getting to know all of you as the school year progresses!<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Homework:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Every day your child will be bringing home a homework\u00a0folder that includes a reading log. The instructions for how to complete their reading logs will be included. The homework that will be given is an extension of the learning takes place in class that day. Reading is the key to your child\u2019s success in all areas of learning, so I expect them to read five days a week for 30 minutes and write at least one sentence about what they read. Parents are required to sign their child\u2019s reading log\/planner daily. Planners and reading logs will be checked daily.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<u>Suggested Donations:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dearborn Public Schools supply all students with basic school supplies to use in the classroom. However, students do lose, break, and wear out many supplies.
