Halloween Supplies

Hello Families,

We have had many offers for juice boxes.  Yusef’s mom responded first and therefore is the lucky one to send in 25 juice boxes on Friday.

Thanks for all the offers!

Halloween is almost here!

Dear Families,

On Friday, October 31, your child may wear their Halloween costume to school if they wish.  Please no masks or fake weapons!

Starting at around 9:00 a.m., the kindergartners will parade up and down the Lindbergh halls.  Parents are welcome to watch and take pictures, just not of me! 🙂

We will have our Halloween party in the morning from 9:30-11:00 a.m.  If you would like to volunteer to help us before/ during/after the party, please leave a comment below.  Thanks!

Your child will need an extra change of clothes.  They will change and place their costumes in their lockers after the party so they can be worry-free for lunch and gym.

If your child would like to bring a treat for when we trick or treat that would be great, but not necessary.  In years past, students brought in clever things that were not candy.

Here is what we need for our Halloween Party:  ( we have 25 students in our class)

25  Fruit cups- mandarin oranges
box of plastic spoons
Little plates
Napkins (lots!):)

12 apples-your choice of variety
2 containers of Caramel sauce/dip
Doughnut holes

Cheese and crackers

10 White  bags with handles for trick-or-treating

10 White bags with handles for trick-or treating

Week of October 20, 2014

Dear Families,

We sure have a busy week ahead in kindergarten.

MONDAY:  Please make sure that your child returns their library book and their green poetry folder.  Letter books will be sent home.  We are studying the letters A  and a this week.  We have gym today so wear gym shoes.  Chaperone information will be sent home today.

TUESDAY:  We will have music and art today.

WEDNESDAY:  We will have music today.

THURSDAY:  Our field trip to the Plymouth Orchards is today.  Please make sure to dress for the weather.  We will be eating lunch there so make sure your child has a bag lunch with their name clearly marked on it.  Your child will need a drink, please no glass.

FRIDAY:  Return letter books today.  Please come to Lindbergh’s Haunted School  from from 6:30-8:30 p.m.  You won’t want to miss it.  🙂  Make sure to visit to our classroom, you won’t recognize it!!

Just a few reminders:

  • Poetry Folders:  We hope you had a chance to look through your child’s green poetry folder.  We study a new poem each week.
  • Snack:  We have been having a couple of issues during snack.  I think some children are confused on what they should eat during this time. I really don’t want to be the snack police, but snacks are becoming increasingly unhealthy.  Please no candy, chips or cookies for snack.  We discussed as a class that fruit snacks are candy in the shape of fruit.  Several children don’t bring a snack at all and insist on eating Ms. Wright’s emergency snacks.  We are also finding snacks on the floor and are starting to get ants in our classroom.  If this issues continue, we may need to change our snack procedure.  Please have a conversation about what your child has for snack each day.  Thanks for your support.
  • School Supplies:  We really appreciate all the wonderful school supplies everyone sent in at the beginning of the year.  However, these supplies ( especially glue sticks and whiteboard markers) are going fast. We have many students that are not taking care of their supplies and are just wasting them.  I find glue sticks and markers with no caps so they are all dried out. Or the students are losing them. Then students want another one for each activity.  Please have a conversation at home about taking care of school supplies.  I will continue to  do this at school.  I am not asking for more supplies, I am more interested in teaching students to be responsible with the supplies they have.  Make sure that your child is practicing putting things away at home.  As a parent, I know that sometimes it is easier and faster to put things away myself, but your helping your child more by making sure they do it themselves.

Thanks for your continued support!

Ms. Wright

Three Quick Things

Dear Families,

If you indicated that you would like to be a chaperone on our upcoming field trip to the Plymouth Orchards on Thursday, October 23, thank you!  Just an FYI, due to limited seating on the bus, we are asking chaperones to drive separately or carpool with other chaperones to the apple orchards.  I will provide chaperones with maps and other important information next week.  Thanks for your understanding!

If your kindergarten daughter is interested to participating in a Daisy Scout Troop, please fill out the yellow form that will be coming home today in your child’s red folder.  Make sure the completed form is turned in as soon as possible. This can be done by placing it back in your child’s red folder.  Please disregard the Friday, October 10th deadline.  It was my mistake that the forms were not sent home earlier.  Thanks to Kate’s mom and Josie’s mom for organizing this!

Lindbergh will be having a Kindergarten Halloween Parade on Friday, October 31st at 9:00 a.m.  Parents are welcome to join us in the Lindbergh hallways at this time.  Although it is a quick parade, it sure is cute!

That is all for now!

Ms. Wright

Week of October 13, 2014

Hello Families,

Hope you had an enjoyable weekend!  Thanks to Zoey’s mom for making playdough this month for our class.  The students love using it to practice making their names, letters and words.  Take a look!

Here is what you need to know for this week!

  • Monday:  Letter books will go home today!  We are working on the letters N and n this week.  Students are doing an excellent job of remembering to have them completed by Friday.  We have gym today.
  • Tuesday:  make sure that your child has returned their library book today if they haven’t already done so.  We have music and art today.
  • Wednesday: We will go to music today.
  • Friday:  Field trip permission slips and money are due today.  Letter books are due today.

Book bags:

Sometime this week your child will be given their own book bag  with a book to take home and practice.  Please make sure your child reads the book to you several times .  They need to return the book bag each school day.  These books are from our school book room and do not personally belong to me so extra care is need.  Reinforce good book handling care at home, such as turning the pages carefully and keeping the books out of the hands of younger siblings.  As the class gets to be more independent during Daily 5 time, I will be seeing your child more often.  For right now, our small group time is short and snappy.  🙂

Raz-Kids:

The students are coming to school very excited about using Raz-Kids at home.  If you have any problems using the website, please let me know so I can help.

Halloween:

The talk of Halloween has already spread in our classroom.  Your child will be able to wear their Halloween costume to school on Friday, October 31st.  In years past, we have a short Kindergarten Halloween Parade at 9:00 am in the hallway.  Afterwards we will have our Halloween party until 11:00 a.m.  This way, we can safely be out of our costumes before lunch and gym.  At Lindbergh, kindergartners are the only students allowed to wear their costumes to school, so we feel pretty special.  More information will be sent home shortly.

PBIS Reward

Just a reminder that students need to stay on green 80 percent of the time.  For the month of October, if they move their clip 5 or more times, they will not be invited to attend the reward.  In the month of September, we had 21 students attend the reward.  Remind your child to make good choices each day in school.

Week of October 6, 2014

Dear Families,

I hope you are enjoying the long weekend!  Here is what you need to know for this upcoming week:

Tuesday:

  • Welcome our new student Martin to our class!  He is coming from Long Elementary in Dearborn.  We are excited to meet you.  We have 25 students in our class.  Sadly, Nicklas moved away but we wish him good luck at his new school.
  • Please make sure that your child returns his/her library book.  Our weekly check out day and time is on Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m.  During a full week of school, your child will return their books on Mondays. It is much easier if the books are all checked-in before we go to the Media Center.  At my own house, my sons always keep their library books in their backpacks.  Whenever they are finished reading them, they place the books in their backpacks so they don’t get mixed up with all of our own personal books.  It works well for us.
  • Letter Books will be sent home today.  This week’s letters are T  and t.  The boys and girls love sharing their letter books with the class.  Letter books are due on Friday.
  • Kindergarten Field Trip information and permission slips will be sent home today.  If you are interested in chaperoning for this trip, please indicate so on the bottom of the permission slip.  Your background check must be approved in order for you to go.  If you can’t go on this field trip, there will be other field trips planned in the future.
  • We will go to Music and Art today.
  • Please find some headphones for your child today.  They need to be in a ziplock bag, labeled with your child’s name.

Wednesday:

  • Raz-Kids:  your child will be coming home with login information today.  Raz-Kids is an on-line leveled book website.  Your child will have assess to thousands of books that are right at their level.  Your child can either read the book or listen to the story.  Afterwards, they take a short comprehension quiz.  My last year class used Raz-Kids all summer long.  Reading on Raz-Kids can count towards their Nightly Reading Homework. Plus, it is great practice for our class to read and answer questions on the computer, which is something we need to do for upcoming assessments.  I paid for the one-year subscription out of my own pocket last December and found it to be money well spent!  The Lindbergh PTA has talked about purchasing Ras-Kids for the classrooms this year.  If you like Raz-Kids, please let the PTA know.
  • Please find some headphones for your child today.  They need to be in a ziplock bag, labeled with your child’s name.
  • We will go to music today.

Thursday:

  • I will be out today for the next Science Leader training.  Mrs. Miller will be our guest teacher today.  She is an outstanding teacher and is excellent with our students!
  • Please find some headphones for your child today.  They need to be in a ziplock bag, labeled with your child’s name.

Friday:

  • Letter Books are due today.
  • It is gym day, please have your child wear his/her gym shoes today.
  • Please find some headphones for  your child today.  They need to be in a ziplock, labeled with your child’s name.

October PBIS Information:

Each month your child needs to stay on green 80% of the month in order to be invited to attend the PBIS reward.  For the month of October that means your child cannot move their clip five or more times.  For the students who either never moved their clip or did so 4 or less times, will receive a special reward during the school day.  For the students who moved their clip 5 or more times, during the month, they will go to the reteaching room where they will learn strategies to help them improve their behavior in the classroom.  If you see your child’s behavior chart getting close to 5 clip changes, please remind them that they need to make better choices so they can attend the reward, I will be telling them the same thing in class.  This can be confusing at first for kindergartners.  They typically think that if they were on green on the reward day, they can go but it is really about their behavior for the whole month.  This will be easier to understand as time goes on in kindergarten.

Have a great week!

Ms. Wright

One more thing!

Dear Families,

headphones-md

In the next week or so, our kindergartners will be administered the NWEA assessment.  This assessment is done on-line in our computer lab.  We need a pair of headphones for your child.  Please send them in a ziplock bag, clearly labeled with your child’s name.  Some ideas to purchase headphones are at Target (in the bin area), Five Below and even the dollar stores.

I really appreciate your support!

Thanks,

Ms. Wright

PS>  After this, we should be good with our school supplies , I promise!!

October 2, 2014

Dear Families,

We had another great day in class today! Our kindergarten scientists rotated through 5 Senses centers.  Thanks to Ian’s mom, Isaac’s grandma, Kayla’s aunt, Charlies’s mom and my mom for all of your valuable help today.  We couldn’t have done it without you.  Take a look at cool pictures!
