Where will you find Mrs. Reed during conferences?

I am available for conference in person or by phone. Since I am in three different buildings you will not find me in your building for all 3 of the conference dates. Here is my schedule for your convenience:

  • Nov. 7 – Maples Elementary School
  • Nov. 12 – Nowlin Elementary School
  • Nov. 14 – Maples Elementary School

I will not be able to be in the Becker building but would welcome Becker parents to call or stop by Maples or Nowlin to meet in person. You may also communicate with me through Google Classroom.

For all parents, you are always welcome to email me or communicate with me through Class Dojo. I am very eager to work with you for the success of your child.

A Question for Salina Honors Choir Students…..

If I were to remove one of your honors Choir concert selections and give it to a 5th grade class which song would you like to give to them?  I have added a new song to your concert list which I think you will really like.  It is titled, “To Swing or Not to Swing”.  If we sing this one then we can drop one or two other songs.  The song or songs we drop will give me an option to give one to a 5th grade group.  Send me comments on this blog post so I know what your desires are.  🙂

Concert preparations are underway….

Our Spring concerts are just around the corner.  We are all working hard in preparation for these two events.  Students in grades 1, 2 and 3 will be performing at the end of March and grades 4 and 5 will perform in May.

Check out our 3rd graders preparing Orff Orchestrations for the Big Black Fly song and story.

Here we are using “body percussion” to learn the part:

In this video we are demonstrating the proper way to remove bars from the instruments:

Using Icons to Create Rhythms in 2nd Grade Music

The second grade students have been learning to use our four voice types properly.  Today we used a poem titled “Underwater” to practice the speaking voice.  Then we used Icon Cards to create a new version of the rhythmic poem.  Here are a few photos and videos of the rhythm poems we created.
