Keep Olaf Alive!
The students will be learning about the effects of the Sun’s rays on the Earth’s surface. After observation of the Sun and its effect, they will be working in groups to create some sort of structure that will shield “Olaf” (a small snowman) from the Sun. They will evaluate the success of their structure after testing their design and determining how much their snowman shrunk throughout the day. They will also compare and contrast the success and failures of their design with that of the teacher’s. Their final results will be shared in a student showcase with their parents and the first grade classes.
