Welcome Back

As the new school year is approaching, there will be some changes to how we communicate student placement. This year, in order to help our community avoid large gatherings, class lists will not be posted. Instead, our classroom teachers will be e-mailing or calling the parents/guardians of students in their class. We will be having virtual orientation next week and classroom teachers will be sharing information about themselves, their class, and the focus for the upcoming school year via our classroom blogs.

Learning at Home

Dear Parents,
Due to unforeseen circumstances, we will be shifting learning to online resources. Here are expectations of the next few weeks for all second graders.

Communication
Ms. AlZaharnah and Ms. Marano will be in communication through ClassDojo and by email during regular school hours 8:30-3:30. Please be patient with us as we figure out how to best serve the students digitally. In doing so, please allow 24 hours for a direct response. Thank you for your understanding. We will be continually updating. Please check ClassDojo at least once a day.

Reading
Raz-Kids: Log in and read a minimum of 5 books weekly with the completion of quizzes. These quizzes will be tracked and scored for their reading progress.
Spelling: One spelling list will be given each week to practice spelling patterns. All spelling lists will be available on Spelling City (On Clever).
IXL: ELA practice. Please log in through Clever to work on the starred skills. This will be helpful for practicing phonics and foundational reading skills. This will be tracked weekly. Students should complete a minimum of 2 starred lessons per week.
Writing: A writing prompt sheet will be posted to ClassDojo. Students should write and respond to 2 prompts per week. If you have not already done so, please activate their portfolio. This is where they will submit their writing.

Math
Zearn: Students will be expected to complete 4 lessons per week. We will send out the lessons for the week on Monday. All data is sent to the teachers so we can track their progress. Students who picked up their math book are welcome to complete the lesson Problem Sets and sprints. All lesson explanations are available on Youtube. Search “Grade 2 Module 5 Lesson ___” type in the corresponding lesson.
IXL: Extra practice for various math skills. This will not be tracked.

Thank you for your patience during this time as we figure out digital curriculum learning. Please contact us with any questions you may have through ClassDojo or by email.
