Floor Hockey Next Week

As we wind down our scooter unit, we start looking at our next unit…FLOOR HOCKEY!  This unit will take us through February and into March.  As always, safety will be our main focus throughout this unit.  The first week will focus on rules, safety, stick handling and passing.  From that point on we will work on game skills, game play and “skills” competitions.

Wayne County Regional Enhancement Education Millage Proposal

School districts in Wayne County have placed a proposal on the November 8th ballot to provide added funding for our schools. It is the “Regional Enhancement Millage Proposal.”

If approved by the entire county, the 2 mil proposal will generate approximately $6.2 million from Dearborn but the District will receive $7.8 million in additional funding for our schools.  Money would go to local schools starting this year and the millage expires after six years.  Continue reading

New Marking Period – New Unit — Basketball

It’s time to dust off those high tops and find your inner Lebron, Steph or Draymond.  Our basketball unit begins next week.  We will be working toward our dribbling test at the end of the unit.  We will cover dribbling, passing, shooting and team concepts during this unit.  This is one of the favorite units of the year, so be sure to wear your gym shoes!!!  See if you can compete with these guys…

Welcome back to Salina!

Welcome back everyone.  It’s that time of year again.  The time when the leaves begin to change color, we set our clocks back and MSU beats U of M.  🙂

TOUCHDOWN!!!  JALEN-WATTS JACKSON

The school year has started and the first two weeks were great.  Our rules are clear and we are ready to embark on another great year of physical education at Salina Elementary.  We will be doing many awesome activities this year, including:  running, obstacle courses, soccer, basketball, volleyball, hockey, tug o’ war, basketball, baseball and more.  We have so much planned, please be sure to always remember the following things:

  1.  Always have gym shoes, so you can participate in whatever activity we are focusing on that day.
  2. Sportsmanship is the focus of every activity.
  3. “I can’t” and “It’s too hard” are not allowed in our gym.  Trying is your only option and the only way we will ever grow!

Our first activity (starting this week) will be the mile pre-test.  We will be discussing pace and breathing in an effort to establish the ground work for our overall fitness goals.  Last year we had some great runners, are you the next?  We will see soon enough.

Mile Run Test

With the warm weather comes the mile run test.  We will be doing our mile run test this week and next week as well.  Please be sure to wear shoes that are comfortable for running!  Bring water and make sure you get a good night’s sleep before.

It’s deep…Way back…GONE!!!

It’s finally spring, which means it’s time for baseball.  We have begun our annual “hitting clinic” here at Salina.  We will be working on batting off the tees, throwing and catching.  This is one of the best units all year to test your hand/eye coordination.  Good luck…remember, swing hard in case you hit it!

Tug O’ War Time!!!!!!

Back for a limited time only, it’s Tug O’ War.  We will only be playing for a week, so be sure to get in on this student favorite while you can!  This is a great game to work on total body strength as well as understanding the difference between “push” and “pull”.

Finally….Scooters have come back to Salina!

While I was out recovering from shoulder surgery, we missed our annual scooter unit.  I have decided to move the schedule around and ensure that everyone gets to have one of their favorite units of the year…SCOOTERS!  We will have a three week unit, focusing on safety rules then pushing vs. pulling.  This unit normally aligns with your classroom force unit (push vs. pull) but obviously this year it’s a little later.

Here is some of the fun from week #1.
