Confirmed Case at Snow Preschool – No Action Required

DATE: 12/11/2020

TO: Snow All Day Preschool Parents

FROM: Stephanie Stover, Early Childhood Supervisor

RE: COVID-19 Case Identification

A confirmed case of coronavirus (Covid-19) has been identified at school. We are working closely with Wayne County Health Department to identify exposures and prevent further cases. This letter is informational only; no further action is required for you at this time.  If you have not been contacted by the district nurse or your building administrator, you are not considered to be a close-contact to the positive individual.

I want to thank all staff and students for following through social distancing measures and adhering to all other guidelines, like wearing masks at all times and not being in close contact with anyone for 15 minutes or more. I want to also remind all staff and students that we need to respect everyone’s privacy at all times. Your safety and privacy are important to us. Again, we thank all of you for adhering to all guidelines.

The virus that causes COVID-19 is thought to spread mainly from person to person, through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes or talks. These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs. Spread is more likely when people are less than six feet from each other for at least 15 minutes. A person who is a close contact of someone who is infected with COVID-19 may experience COVID-19 symptoms typically within two to fourteen days after a person is exposed.

The symptoms of COVID-19 are similar in children and adults. Symptoms can include: Fever (>100.4oF), cough, shortness of breath, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, runny or stuffy nose, loss of taste or smell, abdominal pain.

There are many things that can be done to keep our schools, homes, and communities “COVID-19 free” and protect ourselves and loved ones:

  1. Children and adults should stay home when ill.
  2. Washing hands often with soap and running warm water for at least 20 seconds.
  3. If a hand washing station is not available, use hand sanitizer properly. Gels, rubs, and hand wipes must contain at least 60% alcohol. Dispose of wipes in the trash after use.
  4. Practice Good Respiratory Etiquette (cover a cough with elbow versus hand).
  5. Follow guidance for wearing a face covering and social distancing.

If you have questions, please contact Wayne County Health Department at 734-727-7078.

Following the guidance of the MI Safe Schools Roadmap, the school has been disinfected. This includes spraying classrooms, hallways, locker rooms, and common areas as needed with a sanitizer, along with other methods of disinfection.

Additional information can be found on the CDC website.

Tuition Based Preschool Programs

Our Tuition Based Preschool Programs will not operate during Remote Learning but will return when the district returns for Face to Face instruction. Please return to this blog for updates on our Preschool Programs. Our ALL DAY  PRESCHOOL classroom at Snow will continue to operate because it also serves as child care for working families from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Safety Protocols at our Programs

Safety for our students and staff is a priority at all times in our programs. We follow the LARA and CDC recommendations for Entry and Exit. For that reason parents will not be entering classroom spaces or if they must in the case of some cafeteria spaces, they will stay 15 to 20 feet away from students and staff.

Clean and used pens will be kept separate from one another so that families always have a sanitized pen for signing in and out. Parents will answer Health Questions for their children and take temperatures before entering the classroom each day. Temperatures will also be taken before lunch. Children’s health will be monitored throughout the day.

Cleaning and sanitizing schedules and protocols are followed daily within our programs. The guidelines followed are those recommended by LARA.

Pricing for the School Age Child Care Program : This program is only offered at select sites during Remote Learning. The program is intended for children in Young 5’s through 5th grade. The cost is $36/day for the first child for 8 hours of care, $38/day for 9 hours of care, $40/day for over 9 hours of care. There is also a Half Day option for $18 per day for 4 hours. Thank you for your patience in this matter.

Registration for 2020-21

To our returning families and those who would like to enroll for the 20020-21 school year, we are handling our registration through printing registration materials from this blog. Please to to the Registration Forms for All Programs Page and follow the instructions.

Updates for our programs

Greetings to our Early Childhood Family,

I would like to address some question you may have about our programs let me address them here.

Preschool teachers will reach out to you with lessons and activities two or three times per week via Remind, iblog or email. Each teacher uses a different platform to communicate with families. Please check that platform to stay informed and continue to work with your preschooler. Please let me know via email if you have not heard from your child’s teacher by 3/20. stovers@dearbornschools.org

Kids Club parents should also hear from the Kids Club Leads, Providers OR Managers weekly with ideas or information to help keep your school age children active and engaged. The format will vary depending on the program site. Some staff use Facebook, Remind, email or blogs. We want our students to feel connected to those they know, love and trust. Make sure you check out the district and your school pages for updates as well.

Kids Club, Half Day Preschool and All Day Preschool, these days off will be treated as “Snow Days” in the program.
