Transition to iLearn

This week as Dearborn Public Schools is moving towards iLearn for virtual class, I will be implementing this starting Monday and Tuesday this week. It is very simple. Students will see the website and the enrollment code on their class calendario. Students should join the Spanish iLearn class and then join the virtual classroom either called Clase virtual de Español 1 or Clase virtual de Español 2. I understand that this may be new and different for many, but it would be nice to see as many students as possible Monday/Tuesday this week! Wednesday and Thursday will be office hours. I hope everyone is doing well during these times.

Monday/Wednesday
Period 1: 1:00-1:40
Period 2: 1:40-2:20
Period 3: 2:20-3:00
Tuesday/Thursday
Period 4: 1:00-1:40
Period 5: 1:40-2:20

Beginning Week of April 27

I hope that everyone and their families are all doing well. There was a little confusion regarding the two weekly assignments so after the “run through” week, next week beginning April 27th, I would like to meet face to face with each class Monday and Tuesday given their schedule:

Monday/Wednesday
Period 1: 1:00-1:40
Period 2: 1:40-2:20
Period 3: 2:20-3:00
Tuesday/Thursday
Period 4: 1:00-1:40
Period 5: 1:40-2:20
Period 6: 2:20-3:00

We’ll do Wednesday and Thursday again for office hours. Hopefully this will clarify a lot of the same questions we have and I will be able to answer any questions for the second week of work which will be more difficult than this first week.

The code for the video calls will be listed on the calendario:

Beginning week of April 20

I hope that everyone is doing well during these times. As Mr. Martin clarified in his e-mail yesterday, students in all classes will be more rigorously learning online. This may look different in different classes, but I want to make things as simple as possible. In my class, students need to complete two assignments per week. Both assignments can be found on the calendario and need to be completed by 10:00 am on Fridays.

The first assignment is a mandatory check-in with feedback. Students are familiar with the repaso de la meta during the in-school school year, and this is quite similar so that they can give me their feedback on the work and if there’s anything else that they would like to share. The second assignment will be a Google Forms activity that will comprise of vocabulary, grammar, reading, and listening activities.

As we are not teaching any “new material,” in my class we will continue to focus on skills practiced in the classroom. This will include continued practice of the present (Spanish 1) / past (Spanish 2) tense, practice previous vocabulary, and one new unit of vocabulary/authentic (reading/listening) activities. As these are the activities that students have done all year, I do not anticipate much difficulty.

If there is any difficulty that students need clarification on, my first suggestion is to write me an e-mail, as many students have already been doing. I will e-mail you back very quickly during the “school day” and I will do my best to do so afterwards at a reasonable time.

If there is a problem or a concept that cannot be explained or understood via a simple e-mail, the school has created a Google Meet schedule for teachers to be available. All teachers will be following the same schedule. That schedule follows below:
Monday/Wednesday
Period 1: 1:00-1:40
Period 2: 1:40-2:20
Period 3: 2:20-3:00
Tuesday/Thursday
Period 4: 1:00-1:40
Period 5: 1:40-2:20
Period 6: 2:20-3:00

Again, I understand that this is a lot of new information and this will all probably feel very overwhelming for students as you have six other classes to do the same in. The first week to get used to this new schedule, the first assignment will not be too difficult to complete and will mainly focus on understanding the new online class requirements. And again, I hope that everyone is staying safe and healthy.

Week of April 13 to April 17

I hope everyone was able to enjoy the break week as well as possible. As our district is deciding this week how to move forward with online learning, there will only be one assignment to do this week and that will be 100XP on Duolingo. I’d recommend challenging yourself on this activity, especially working on a more recent topic. I also recommend staying on top of vocabulary and grammar, but found on the current vocab sheet, as well as on Quizlet, and plenty of more resources/activities on the calendario itself. Please continue to send me emails if there are any questions or any confusion. Thank you to everyone who has emailed me with questions already.
