I can use properties of exponents to simplify mathematical expressions.

Worksheet (with answer key on last two pages) is here: 0110 Properties of Exponents.  Make sure you have a list of and can use the multiplication, division, power, and negative exponent properties.  In addition, know that anything to the 0 power equals 1.

To do on 11/11

The goal for the day: Model situations using systems of linear inequalities!  It’s very similar to systems of linear equations, except the phrases “less than,” “more than,” “at least”, “at most,” and others appear.  To do today:

  1. Mandatory: Join my Khan Academy class.  Log in to or make a Khan Academy account.  Then click on “Profile” followed by “Add a Coach”.  Enter this class code: CBQ52Z.  If you don’t join the class, you can’t get credit for doing the rest of this…
  2. Mandatory: Watch this series of videos (yes, all of them…it’ll help!) and do the practice problems as they appear (2 sections).  Learn how to model situations using linear inequalities and then systems.
  3. Mandatory: Complete the worksheet the sub has (also available here: 1110-systems-of-inequalities-word-problems.)  You DON’T have to solve the inequalities, just model the situation.  An answer key is available here: 1110-systems-of-inequalities-word-problems-key

Optional stuff:  If you’re finished with the mandatory assignments, practice one of these things by watching the video and doing the problems or just skipping right to the problems:

  1. Solving system of equations with substitution. (and about a million more examples…scroll down the menu on the left and pick the video and/or problem you wish to learn about.
  2. Solving systems of equations with elimination. (and about a million more examples…see above)
  3. Solving systems of equations with graphing.  (…and about a million more examples…)
  4. System of equation word problems. (…and about a million more examples)

For each of these, watch several videos and then, when you feel comfortable with the topic, click on one of the practice options (marked by a star in the circle in the menu on the left).  Practice until you get 3-5 in a row and Khan Academy declares the objective mastered.  Then move on to a different one.

If you’re good with all of those things and have finished the mandator work, pick any Khan Academy topic in Algebra 2 or Precalc and have fun!

Wayne County Regional Enhancement Education Millage Proposal

School districts in Wayne County have placed a proposal on the November 8th ballot to provide added funding for our schools. It is the “Regional Enhancement Millage Proposal.”

If approved by the entire county, the 2 mil proposal will generate approximately $6.2 million from Dearborn but the District will receive $7.8 million in additional funding for our schools.  Money would go to local schools starting this year and the millage expires after six years.  Continue reading
